Cue Point, Showing Layers, Seekbar issue.

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a module on Email Etiquette.

During the video I need to pop up some question layers.

So, with cue point I managed to Pause Video, Pause Timeline and Show Question Layer with trigger.

And at the end of the Question layer, once the question is answered. Continue Timeline, Play video and Hide Question layer.

I had an issue that the Question layer would keep popping up when seeking further forward but this is now fixed.

I did this with a Trigger on the Base Layer set to 'Hide Question Layer' IF  Variable set to True (Which happens once the 'Close' button on the Question layer is clicked.)

Now my problem is that the Seekbar will not allow you to seek anywhere else in the video once this Layer has been viewed. The seekbar moves, but the video continues playing as if you hadn't touched anything. I need this seekbar to work.

I also want to copy and paste this project, replacing the video and content but keeping the template of triggers for other modules. Some of these other modules will require more than one 'stop' for showing layers, asking questions etc. So the fix needs to be able to accommodate multiple stops and layers being shown.

You will find an example attached. Help would be appreciated!

  • Hi Glenn,

    Happy to help!

There are a few ways to approach your design requirement, but one method that I can recommend is to make use of Lightboxes instead to display the question in your slide. Lightboxes have the added benefit of automatically pausing the slide timeline when activated, and automatically resuming the timeline when the lightbox is closed. This will allow the seekbar of the slide to still control the video.

I've attached an edited version of your project file which makes use of a lightbox to display a sample question, activated when the timeline reaches a specific queue point.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Please add my reply to this issue. Has there been a workaround or fix for this? I'm working in Storyline 360 v3.113.36519.0 and am experiencing something very similar to the original post.

I have inserted a video on a slide with Seekbar enabled and users can drag the seekbar. I have multiple layers (hide and pause base timeline is enabled) with questions that appear at various cue points throughout the video. If I don't adjust the seekbar and let it play, the questions appear on cue without issue. If I drag the seekbar at any time, one the question layers appears but base video and audio continues playing.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions or provide additional information.

    Have a great day!

      Hi JohnMD40,

Sorry to hear that you've run into this setback.

I can confirm that we have this behavior logged as a bug in Storyline 360. This bug causes:

      • When using a Trigger to show a Layer at a specific Cue Point, the Layer still appears if the Timeline jumps to a Cue Point occurring after the Trigger.

I've linked this discussion to the bug report so we can notify you as soon as a fix is ready! In the meantime, as a workaround, we suggest using Variables and Conditions for each 'Show Layer' Trigger.

If you need help applying this workaround, feel free to upload a copy of your .story file here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

We appreciate your patience, and I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!
