Learners Getting Stuck in Articulate Courses (in LearnUpon LMS)

Hi everyone! đź‘‹

For the past 6 months or so, we’ve noticed more and more learners randomly getting stuck in our Rise and Storyline courses, all imported into LearnUpon via xAPI. There seems to be no pattern to it: learners get stuck in different courses, at different progress points. Re-exporting then re-importing the xAPI file doesn’t solve the problem, nor does adjusting settings in either the LMS or Storyline/Rise. We are using very basic formatting in Rise and Storyline so there shouldn’t be any issues there.

I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue with increasing frequency lately? We are up to at least 1-2 learners per week getting stuck for no discernible reason. We have to log into the LMS and pass them. We're trying to discern if this is an LMS issue or an Articulate issue.

(We’ve also experienced other issues, like elements in a Rise course randomly not appearing until the learner hits “refresh,” but this is a question for another day.)

Thanks!
Erin

  • Hi ErinKingsley-93! Thanks for sharing these details.

I'm curious if others in the community are using LearnUpon LMS and seeing the same thing with their courses.

When you run into LMS inconsistencies, we recommend testing your course in SCORM cloud. It’s a great way to see if the issue is LMS-specific or baked into the course itself.

If you're seeing the same behavior in SCORM Cloud, we’d be happy to take a closer look. You can attach your course file here or send it privately in a support case.

Hi ErinKingsley-93 and LaurenDuvall, I was wondering if you have any progress or new information on this issue with LearnUpon, Rise, and xAPI?

My team and I have the exact same issue. We recently (19th Jan) launched our LearnUpon LMS instance to our learners, around 1,500 teachers so far and climbing. Across that number we have had around 5,500 registrations to our 80 or so self-paced courses.

We have around 8% of our learners that are experiencing the intermittent not complete/course not tracking issue and hence getting stuck and my team having to manually Set Complete in the LMS. Happy to take this offline or direct message me if more convenient.

    Thanks in advance!

I saw this problem when I administered Cornerstone, and it turned out to be nothing more than the quality of the internet connection and the LMS eventually timing out on the user; there was nothing that we could do and there was nothing that anyone on the Cornerstone side could do. I suspect this is the same way with all LMSes. Yes, we had the usual checklist to apply when the user experienced this problem, and that did solve the issue occasionally (turn off your pop-up blocker, disable other extensions, use a supported browser, etc), but fundamentally, there wasn't a solution.

Thanks MT, this is useful information to know

  • Hi Stan! We have made some progress. We insert this visual disclaimer into all Articulate courses in our LMS, and we have alerted both Articulate and LearnUpon (our LMS) about this issue. We have seen these instances decline by 99% in the past 3 months, and now rarely receive notices that learners are stuck. And when they are stuck, 99% of the time it is learner error. So, I'm not sure as to the exact solution, but this problem is largely resolved for us.

I hope you find a solution! It's all very nebulous!

Hi Erin, thank you for the visual disclaimer, that is excellent. Yes, nebulous indeed. My team and I can't find any patterns in the data. Hopefully we experience what you did with the 99% decline.
