Passing Storyline Scores to LMS
Hi,
I am creating eLearning courses using Storyline and sending them to the LMS using Scorm 1.2. All went well until the client asked me if it was possible to get the actual user score for the Quiz into the LMS.
I have set the passing score at 70% and the client is okay to just get the actual passing score into the LMS for reporting. I was told that you have to execute a javascript but I will be glad if there was an easier solution.
Thanks in advance,
Kind Regards,
Parm

Hello Parm and welcome to Heroes!
Wanted to make sure that you have a results slide set up after the quiz which will trigger to submit the results to your LMS.
However, it will be up to them as to how they display the results.
You can look here for information on troubleshooting the tracking and reporting with your LMS.
Also, you can test the course on the SCORM Cloud, which is the industry standard for testing, to verify that the results are being set.
Let us know if you need anything else.
Hi Parm,
Storyline has four different options to pass completion to an LMS, two of which also include the success status as detailed here:
- Passed/Incomplete
- Passed/Failed
- Completed/Incomplete
- Completed/Failed
Many LMSs track both a completion status and a success status. To report both statuses, choose either Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed when publishing Storyline content. Completed/Incomplete and Completed/Failed report only the completion status.
As Emily shared, its up to each LMS how they display the data that Storyline sends and what option you need to use within the Storyline LMS publishing set up (ie Scorm 1.2 vs Scorm 2004 vs. AICC, etc. or the completion/success statuses above). If you test your course at SCORM Cloud, you'll be able to see a good indication of the data that is being sent and if the score is not recorded at all.
Hi Lizzie,
Glad you were able to figure it out - that article was specific for text variables, and numeric variables are handled a bit differently. This article will walk you through the different options for data entry fields.
Hello Nicole -
Articulate Storyline lets you track a course either by the number of slides viewed or by a single quiz (result slide). Tracking both measurements for the same course isn't supported. Similarly, tracking multiple quiz scores in the same course isn't supported. However, you may be able to track more than one SCO (shareable content object) in a single course using one of the unsupported methods in this article.
To report both completion status and success status to an LMS, select either Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed as the reporting option when publishing your Articulate Storyline content. See this article for more information.

I have a question about tracking more than one quiz as Scorm output. I'm playing with the solution of publishing as a web object and inserting into the course. I'm assuming I have to actually host the quiz on a platform and then link to the web address? This may sound very elemental but I'm struggling with this. I have a couple modules I've built in Presenter with multiple quizzes that I'd like to be able to track in our LMS and need a work around to the default for Articulate of having to choose only one of the quizzes.
Also, if anyone has info about how the Simple Scorm Packager works I'd appreciate feedback.
Thanks.

Hi All -
I have created a quiz in the form of a game. We are not as interested in who 'passed' or 'failed' and the results percentage, we are more interested in creating a competition based on high points scored instead. For example, 100% = 300 points. (that's right now, of course it's going to get much bigger and more complex)....
Is there a way to pass the points to the LMS instead of the percentage? We would rather see a report that indicates 300 points instead of 100%, We have a big quarterly event and want to create a challenge - high scorer wins....
I am using Convert to Free Form slides with Drag and Drop and a results slide (which will become multiple results slide as we add levels, but for now - there is only 1 level and 1 result slide).
I'm using Storyline 2. :(
Thanks all!

Hi Cathy
What you could do is use this tutorial here:
this shows you how to pass the score to a Google spread sheet, you can send what ever variables you like. We are running an escape the room game (www.willowdna.com/escape) at the moment and all the details - name, email address, completion time (minutes and seconds) are sent to the Google doc when the user clicks submit.
It works really nicely and is a lot cheaper than having to adjust an LMS to pick up different values.

Hi Emily,
Thanks for your response. I do have the Results Slide that I use for reporting on the LMS. But the only information that goes through is the status Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed depending upon how I set it up.
On the other hand, the client is looking for the ACTUAL score (70%, 80% and so on). The output options while publishing do not have the option of passing the score over to the LMS.
Thanks for sending the links.

I believe this is one HUGE area of potential for Articulate - if you can partner better with LMS systems you have a potential goldmine. I struggle with this area - how to get our lms (D2L) to read Articulate Storyline created modules. The grading piece would be such a huge benefit to so many of us!

Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to have a quiz which gets graded but then to not send the score to the LMS?

Sure Keari
you can have a result slide that displays with a result and when you publish to LMS - choose track by number of slides instead of result slide. Hope I have understood your question.

So can someone tell me if it is or is not possible to have an actual % passed from a result slide to a LMS ?
Hi Tracy! As you can see from this conversation, that may be based on your LMS reporting ability. You can verify testing in SCORM Cloud if needed to identify if any issue lies within your project or your LMS. Are you having difficulty with something or was that just a general question?
