Play and Stop buttons greyed out in Timeline
Sometimes my Play and Stop buttons are greyed out (and can't be used) in my Timeline in Storyline. What could be causing this, and how can I reactivate them?
Thanks!
Hello Everyone! ✨
I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.76.30446.0).
In this update, we have implemented a fix for:
- Timeline preview buttons weren't always clickable.
As a first step, I recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

Hi Michael,
Sorry that we're just getting back to you now - but our team doesn't work over the weekends, and we're catching up after a holiday break as well.
Your image looks similar to Elissa's in that it's hard to determine the buttons are greyed out. You mentioned it worked at one point - but has stopped working recently (I assume)? Have you looked to confirm that you're working with all local project files as described here and have you also looked at conducting the repair of Storyline?

Hi Donna,
Have you already looked into the other troubleshooting steps in this thread? I haven't seen this on my own project files yet, but I'd also want to confirm that you're working locally as mentioned above.

I've discovered this is when the Play and Stop buttons are greyed out for me as well. It doesn't matter what projects I have open. They grey when multiple instances of Storyline are open.
Closing one instance doesn't resolve the issue for me. I had to close both instances and just reopen one. The buttons were available again.
Hi Bobbi,
Thanks for the image - as I mentioned earlier I haven't experienced this yet, so I'd suggest going through the troubleshooting steps above in terms of working locally and conducting the repair.

It is obviously a bug.
For me it happens when I have an audio file in the slide. Must be some problem re-accessing the audio file. - michelepatlaCommunity Member
Was this ever resolved? I am experiencing the same problem still and it's pretty clunky to work with under tight deadlines.

I don't think it's been resolved, but for me, if I go to another slide or two, I can usually get the play buttons to work on those slides, then I return to the original slide and it's no longer grayed out. Hope that helps.
