Reset answer on try again?
Is there a way to force SL to clear quiz answers when the learner hits "Try Again"?
Edit: and randomize them again.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi is there a simple fix to this issue yet?
The problem is, you cannot jump to same slide and reset visit to initial state using question banks. .. Its a simple request that must be very difficult to implement given the 7 year history of this discussion.
Is this something SL is just not going to fix/do/worry about? It seems pretty crazy to show previous answers to a question that may be T/F or have limited multichoice options.
Also to add triggers to individual slide assetts to make this work is just annoying and time wasteful, especially given the time SL takes to create stuff :)
Thanks

Hi, I am having a similar problem. I have a freeform drag & drop item that has 6 movable text objects that are to be placed in certain locations on the form. Attempt is set to 2. If the user is unsuccessful the first time I show them a Try Again screen with a Try Again button on it. When they click Try Again I want the movable objects to return to their original locations. I have assigned the "Change state to Normal" for each movable object to the Try Again button and have moved the "Hide layer this layer" to the bottom of the trigger tree. I have also tried setting the default slide setting to "Reset to Initial State" and "Automatically Decide" but it makes no difference. The text items do not reset when the Try Again button is clicked. What have I missed?

Hi Glen,
I have a few slides that are exactly the same as yours, functionally. I found another helpful thread here, which worked well for me. Because the objects you're assigning as drag objects don't function as states the way radio buttons or checkboxes work on normal question slides, you have to trigger a "jump to this slide". Hope this helps! I did get it to work, so if you're having issues, I can try to help. :)

Glen,
Instead of using "hide layer" try using "Jump to slide, this slide, when user clicks Try Again." Then set the revisit properties to "Reset to initial state." That worked for me on the drag and drop questions.
Because you are starting from the initial state, it will not count your attempts correctly, so you will also need to add 2 triggers to the Try Again layer. Create a TryAgain variable and say, When the timeline starts on the Try Again layer, add 1 to the TryAgain variable. Another trigger on this layer will say, Show layer, Incorrect, it TryAgain is greater than 1 (or what ever you want to use for number of attempts).
I hope this works for you.

Hi all,
I am trying to reset the the whole quiz section when users reaches the failure layer on result slide. I did all the things that are suggested here, adding triggers and variables and all the other things. But something doesn't seem to work. The quiz slides don't reset and if they do, the user can't resubmit the answer as they can not click on anything but the submit button. Can someone please help.
Hi Adam!
We are happy to help! Would you be willing to share your .story file in this discussion so we can see what you've created so far?
It sounds like a trigger might be getting in the way here.

Hi Katie. I'm not yet sure if this is fail-safe, but one suggestion I read which improved things for me was to confirm that all the variables I used to trigger a Try Again with a "reset to initial state" for my freeform slides were uniquely named for each slide. I think I called them "TryAgainSlide34", "TryAgainSlide42", etc. If you used variables, as I did, then make sure you create a unique variable for each one. If they're all using the same variable now, you can create new variables and easily change the trigger. Good luck!!

I wanted to follow up this thread by saying that we still found the Try Again reset, even with unique variable names applied, fairly buggy so we decided to break each interaction into two slides to accommodate the 2 attempts requirement. The first slide is set to 1 attempt and has the Try Again response appearing on the Incorrect Slide Layer. "Continue" button has a trigger to jump to the second interaction slide (invisible to the user as a separate slide) for the second attempt. This second slide is also set to 1 attempt and jumps to the next slide.
Hi Katie,
I'm glad to see that Melissa is popping in to help you here.
I'd be happy to look at your project file to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it publicly here or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hola, Francisca.
On our latest update of Storyline 3 (Build 3.12.24693.0, from April 2021), we removed the option for Flash fallback, so now all the projects are only published as HTML5. Take a look at this article for additional information:

I have multiple questions in a module that allows 2 attempts per question. My learners are experiencing an issue where they are not awarded the full amount of points when they get the answer correct on the 2nd try. I've looked and can't find the answer to this issue other than a bunch of triggers and extra work. Any ideas how learners can get the full points available per question even on the 2nd attempt at the question?
Hi Erin,
Would you be willing to upload a copy of your project file here so we can the scoring? You can also send it directly to our support engineers by opening a support case. We'll delete your file as soon as we're done troubleshooting.

This slide is a "pick many" slide. When the answers are correct on the first try, it works just as it should and moves to next slide. If the first try is incorrect, any additional tries communicate 'incorrect' even though it is correct. I've toubleshooted over and over and am at a toatal lose. I have two additonal slides that are the same style and are doing the same thing. Please help.
