Rise loading state and loading time
We're experiencing issues with the loading times of Rise courses.
Our Rise courses are embedded in our LMS (Moodle) using SCORM. Technically this is working fine, but the loading speed of our Rise courses and/or de loading state presentation is a little bit of a UX issue.
When starting a SCORM based e-learning in our LMS, it first loads a SCORM viewer, which than loads de SCORM file and presents this to the user. We know this sometimes takes a little while and an bad internet connection can cause this to be slow. In the LMS a notification/loading state is offered to inform users, this might take some time.
But after the SCORM viewer is loaded it's up to the SCORM file to take over this function and either display the e-learning or display a loading state.
While a Rise SCORM file does offer a loading state, it can take up to 10 seconds for this message to appear after the SCORM viewer has loaded. Resulting in users thinking they have a problem or there is a problem with the e-learning/LMS (see the attached animated GIF for an example).
The size of a course has little effect on the time e.g. a Rise course consisting of 3 simple blocks text, question and text will also take muiltiple seconds to load. And we don't have this issue with the SCORM files generated in Storyline.
Does anyone recognise this issue and/or has anyone tips on how we could improve the loading time of make sure the loading state is offered/shown sooner?
Kind regards,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,
Thanks for outlining what you’re seeing and for the clear example! Rise 360 courses can take a few seconds to initialize after the LMS SCORM player loads, especially when the browser is fetching course assets for the first time. That delay can feel like a blank screen before the Rise loading state appears.
We don’t have a setting today that lets the Rise loading message appear right away after launch, but I’ve shared your feedback with our product team. Improving the hand-off between the LMS loader and Rise’s own loading state would definitely make for a smoother experience.
You may also reach out to us in a support case so our engineers can review one of your SCORM exports and see if there’s anything we can suggest to help improve loading times in your particular setup.

Thanks for your feedback Eric!
I created a support case and uploaded one of our SCORM files so you have a better idea of how our files work (which is mostly standard Rise in a SCORM export).
We understand that Rise works a little different and the loading time will also depend on the size of the e-learning and used media. But any improvement in the User experience would be appreciated!Hi Digitalemedia,
Great call opening a case! I see that you're working with our colleague Jan. You're in excellent hands!
We'll continue the conversation over in your case, so everything is in one spot!
