Storyline - Files disappeared
I had a very odd thing happen when I was working on Storyline WBT. December 23rd, I was putting some final touches on the WBT, when the software froze completely. I let it sit for over 5 minutes, but I couldn't do anything. I assumed it was my internet connection (working from home). I closed everything, waited a bit, then opened Storyline again. But the WBT file was gone - as well as Word docs I had created for record retention. I really thought I was going nuts - and blamed my internet connection. But 2 weeks later, I was back in the office. I had totally recreated the WBT file and was again just finishing it. This time, I backed it up in multiple locations. Thank God I did, as the same thing happened. Storyline just froze - I couldn't do anything. This time, just the Storyline WBT file disappeared. I can understand a system locking up, and loosing some of the most recent changes you had made. But for the whole file to just disappear - I have never had that happen before. Anyone else have this issue??
Thanks! Janet
Hi JanetNesseth-2a,
Thanks for reaching out!
A common cause of file-related issues is working directly on a network drive. To reduce file corruption, we recommend working locally when making any edits to your Storyline 360 project files.
If the issue happens again, please check your temp files immediately to see if a working version of your project was saved. Here's how to check:
- Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
- Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
- Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
- Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
Feel free to open a case with our support team here if working locally doesn't fix the behavior for you.

Thank you for responding. I was saving files to the C drive, in My Articulate Projects. It is the files in that location that just disappeared. I have never seen that happen before. My IT department has access to my computer to make updates at any time, but they assured me they don't make them during normal business hours, and would not delete anything from a C drive.
