Storyline 360: Location of closed caption in the player
Is there a way to determine where on the screen the closed caption is displayed? All I have been able to do is have it play on top of the video. I would like it to show up below the video. We do software training and it doesn't always work to have the closed caption within the screen since it could end up covering something important.
Hi everyone,
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 86, we’ve included important fixes and new features.
One of the new features we’ve included:
- Position captions at the top or bottom of the slide to ensure closed caption visibility and prevent the obstruction of critical course content.
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you add a feature to customize the background color of the closed captioning. Right now it's gray. If I have a colored background, closed captions are low in readability. The customization should be per slide depending on our slide color.

Hi Annilee,
Thanks for jumping in and sharing your thoughts regarding the feature request for the ability to customize closed captions!
I'll be sure to add your thoughts to the report and pop back in here when there's any progress to share!

It would be great if the closed captioning highlighted the place in the Notes that matched with the audio as I have seen in Presenter, instead of appearing in boxes at the bottom of the screen. Like previous comments, that takes up a lot of space on the screen.
Hi Anne!
That's helpful for us to know. I've added your comments to our current feature report.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!

Still hoping for good news on this feature request, but I did just find a good video on creating your own transcript box using layers, variables and triggers. This might be a good option for us although it would be more work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bASTUR71_qM

I agree! Being able to control the location of the caption box would be ideal.

Anything new on this request?

Joining this conversation to express our urgent need for this feature. We need to be able to prevent captions blocking onscreen content.
