Storyline Background audio - volume level change in transition between slides
I am using background audio on a Storyline project and have it set to reduce in volume when there is other audio on a slide. However, even though I have created audio that goes from the beginning to the end of some slides, when the slides transition the audio jumps back up to full volume for only a fraction of a second before reducing again for the next slide. This is incredibly annoying - I would like to maintain a low volume throughout the presentation and only have it louder at the very beginning and very end. Is there any way to fix this?
Hi Leah,
Thanks so much for reaching out! I'm happy to hear you are utilizing Background Audio in your course.
- Could you share what type of audio file you are using? As a reference, here are the supported audio file formats in Storyline 360.
- Do you have slide audio currently included on the affected slides?
I'd love to take a closer look at your setup. Feel free to share your .story file in this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

The audio file is an MP3. I have made the background audio quieter and the text-to-speech voice louder in an attempt to hide the little jump in volume that happens when the slide transition occurs, but you can still hear it. I'm attaching the storyline file here.
Hi Leah,
Thanks for sharing a copy of your project file. I published and tested it on my end with the help of my colleagues but we were unable to find an obvious point in the course where the volume levels changed abruptly. Would you mind accessing this link and letting me know at which point in the course can the issue be observed? You'll also want to test using different browsers in case the issue is browser specific.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
