Storyline with video in won't start in Rise

I'm working on this Storyline project with a friend. It works on her computer but not mine or some other people's.

When I click play on the first slide I get three dots and everything stops. It does not move on to the next slide and either autoplay the video or show the video and wait for me to press play.

Does anyone know why this is and/or a way round it?

Thanks very much. My friend would like to use it as part of a job application so all help greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Sean!

Thank you for sharing your .story file with us! I published the course to Review 360 and the video did play on my end. Here's the Review link that I used.

I tested this in Google Chrome. Which browser are you using?

  • Hi, Lauren,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I'm also using Google Chrome, and I still get the same error when I use the Review link you sent. I guess it's probably something in my settings against autoplay of videos and that our other colleague had something similar. This could be a problem with other users. I've encountered this before but usually it at least gets to the video and then you can press play, but this is happening on the first slide...

  • Hi Jurgen,

Thanks, but no, with that version in Chrome I get the same as above. It starts on the first slide and then gives three dots if I press play.

In Firefox I get the media play button before the course starts, but in Firefox the original works fine anyway.

This is a new one for me. I'll have to check if my colleague still gets the same thing :)

  • I'm getting the same problem with Edge. I'll have to see if my colleague gets it too...

  • Hi Sean,

I'd like to jump in with the following troubleshooting suggestions if you have yet to try them. I also tested Lauren's link using Google Chrome, which works well for me. So these steps are to rule out a possible browser issue on your end:

    1. Please clear your browser cache and cookies, then reaccess the course.
    2. Use Incognito mode to rule out possible browser extensions that may be causing the problem.
    3. Use a different browser (Firefox); ensure your browser has the latest updates and JavaScript is enabled.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

  • Hi Eric,

Like I said, it workes fine in Firefox. I just tried it today in Edge and there were no problems and my colleague is no longer having problems so it's just Chrome. I've cleared the cache on Chrome and I'm still having the problem so it must be a plugin. As long as it works for the people my friend is interviewing with it should be fine :)

    Thanks very much :)

I'm glad to hear it works with other browsers except Google Chrome, Sean! Thanks for testing if clearing the cache will help. You're right; a Chrome extension is probably causing the problem. I hope your friend's interview turns out well!
