Text entry variables with additional grammar depending on which text entry boxes have been entered.

Kia ora koutou,
In a storyline module, I would like the learner to be able to type at an earlier stage various items.
Then later in the course have those items appear as a written list with commas in between and an 'and' before the last item. Which is easy enough.
The learner has the option to put up to 6 items but could write less, which is the issue.
So far I can have them input the text as a text entry.
This gets referenced forward to the list page.
BUT if I just pop the grammar in the text box ready to go with the references, if they don't fill in an item, then the grammar - like a comma - it sits there by itself.

Any easy fix in which a 'comma' or an 'and' only appears if my text entry variable has been typed in?

  • Storyline doesn't have that functionality built in. However, it could be done with JavaScript. I've seen posts before with JS for compiling a list, so you could search the Forum for that. Or perhaps one of the JS experts in the community will help here.
