Trouble with hyperlinks in animated bullet points

For some reason, the hover/visited states of the hyperlinks in my project are not working consistently.  For example, I've got different hyperlinks inserted into a single textbox with bullet points and the hover and visited states of the hyperlinks in bullets 1 and 2  differently from the one in bullet 3. (See sample gif below where you can see a light blue highlighted hover state on hyperlink of the last bullet, but not on the other two hyperlinks.) I've tried resetting the built-in hyperlink text states from the home button ribbon, but it is still not working.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hello Everyone!

I'm happy to share that we have released Storyline 360 version 76 (Build 3.76.30446.0)!

Included in this release is the fix for the bug where Hyperlinks inside the same text box behave differently from each other when entrance animation by paragraph is applied.

Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

    Have a great day!

  • Good news for anyone plagued by the issue of hover/visited states missing from some links, particularly when using animate 'by paragraph' - I figured out a workaround that's worked for me in every case I've tried it on so far.

Set the Paragraph > Line Spacing to anything other than 'Normal'.

That's it!  Hover and visited states work for all links!

For example, try "Exactly", and then a pt size that looks close enough to 'normal' spacing.

Hopefully this clue helps the Articulate team fix the bug!

Thanks so much for sharing what worked for you, Renee. It's a big help to other community members who are having the same issue. I've added a note to the bug report with your workaround to help with the investigation. We'll keep you posted if there's a fix available.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  • What were your steps used for building these.  Text hyperlinks do not typically have Hover states.  They are usually on the text box as a whole.

    Can you share the slide?

  • Hi Ron,

Thanks for your quick response!  The process I took was to select the text, go to the "insert" tab, insert hyperlink with a trigger to open the URL when the user clicks on the text.  Then, I noticed that sometimes I would have an issue with some hyperlinks having a hover state, and some not.  So, I went to the "home" tab and tried to modify the project's built-in hyperlink style under the "text"  dropdown menu, but I still can't get it to apply the style consistently.  I'm wondering if this might be related to a previous posting of a bug with hyperlinks with no hover states...I'm also noticing that when the hyperlinks do have a highlighted hover state, it only appears to be on the final bullet, or if the text box only has one hyperlink in among the bullets.

  • Hi Morton Arboretum,

I'm sorry you're having an issue with your hyperlinks not acting the same! You in fact are experiencing a bug in the software that has already been reported. I'm going to add your voice to the report. If there's any news regarding this bug, this conversation will be updated.

Thanks for telling us about this!

  • Forgot all about the Hover text style on a hyperlink - looks like you are in good hands with John

  • I can confirm this bug WAS fixed - but it seems it is back. Our team is experiencing it on the latest 2-3 updates.

  • Hi Renee Y,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!

I'm sorry to hear that your team is experiencing this issue. If you're willing to share a project file where this issue is present, I'd like to test it out on my end for further troubleshooting. You can upload it here or privately in a support case and we'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete!

  • Sure, Kelly. I attached a test file. I created a set of links in a paragraph, duplicated the set, and added Animate By Paragraph to the second set.

You'll see the third link in the second set doesn't have the proper rollover/visited states. (In our testing, we've found it's typically the last or second-to-last link that breaks). Edit: Upon saving/closing and re-testing the file, it's now the second link in the second set that doesn't work.

There's another issue as well. The links are intertwined. Visiting a link in the first set changes the link in the second set to visited. We've found this happens even when changing the destination of the link, or even deleting the contents and making new links from scratch. The first link is still tied to the visited state of the original copy of the textbox, the second to the second, etc.

      Hello Renee,

I'm really sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I tested your project file and can confirm that I was able to observe the issue with the hyperlinks using the latest version of Storyline 360. I went ahead and filed this as a bug so our product team can take a look at the behavior you encountered, as well as the previous bug that was opened for this behavior. We'll be sure to leave a message here once we have new updates to share, and our apologies for any inconvenience this bug may have caused.
