I have made a mock up of my workday calendar and I would like users to go in and choose a day to book off. I currently have it set up as when they select the day it highlights. If I wanted to change the day chosen I cant change another rectangle to selected. I'm not sure If I'm inputting the triggers in incorrectly. Please help

Thank you for sharing the screen recording!
It looks like you're manually creating triggers for the built-in states (selected, hover, etc.). When using Built-in states, there's no need to create a trigger to change the object into that state. The logic is all done by Storyline for you.
If you only allow one date to be selected at a time, you can also create a button set for all your rectangles:
