Using the Next button on a tablet

I have built a storyline course that disables the next button until a certain point on the timeline. It functions perfectly when using a laptop but does not when I take the same course on a tablet.  On the tablet, the next button is always visible and always enabled.  What can I do?

  • which version of storyline you use?

there was a fix in July update

    July 19, 2022 (Build 3.66.28270.0)

Fixed: We fixed a couple of issues with player navigation buttons on mobile devices. Buttons were visible when they should've been disabled or hidden, and the Next button was disabled when revisiting a slide.

Thank you for your reply.  I am on the latest version (August) and this was happening even after the July update.

  • Hi Betsy,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. As what Jurgen mentioned, there was a recent fix that was released for a similar issue, but since you're still encountering the behavior in your project file, I'd like to test your file to see what's going on. Would you be willing to upload a copy of it here or in private by opening a support case? Please include what tablet and OS you are using for testing so we can test the behavior as accurately as possible on our end. We'll delete it as soon as we're done troubleshooting!

I am encountering the same thing. When taking a Storyline course (via an LMS) on a tablet, the hidden/normal button states for the "next" button do not work. The learner has to manually slide their finger to the left to advance to the next slide. Is this the case for tablets - the "next" and "previous" buttons do not work?

      Hi Cynthia!

Sorry to hear you've also run into this setback! Happy to help!

The behavior of the Previous and Next buttons is the same for mobile and desktop devices. Have you had a chance to test how the course performs in an LMS test environment like SCORM Cloud? If the touch controls function when testing in SCORM Cloud, then the issue is LMS-based.

If you can reproduce the same issue in SCORM Cloud, it would be helpful to see your project file for testing on our end. Feel free to share a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

I have tested it on SCORM Cloud with my laptop. However, I don't have a tablet to test it. I will have to see if someone who has one can test.

    Thank you!

I tested it on my phone. The only thing I noticed is that it takes longer for images to load, than when I use my laptop. Is this a known issue for deploying courses to a tablet?

      Hello Cynthia,

I asked for help from my colleague who had an iPad and she confirmed that the navigation buttons in your course worked properly. Can I ask what the brand and OS version of the tablet you used for testing was so I can check if the issue is device-specific?

Note that if your course works regardless of the device it is opened on, I'd recommend working with your LMS support team so they can check what's preventing your course from working properly in their system.

Thank you for testing it. I don't have a tablet, but I tested it on my iPhone and while the pages and images were slow to launch, the navigation worked. I can't tell what OS version of the tablet the learners are using. They are home healthnurses and  aides and that is something I cannot track. But thank you for the advice - I will work with my LMS team.
