.quiz file saving in temp folder
Oct 29, 2013
Hi,
Like many of you, I recently upgraded to Studio '13. I was working on a project last week that involved many QuizMaker and Engage files. Every time I want to make changes to those files, I click on the "Edit in Engage" or "Edit in QuizMaker" button that is located on the placeholder slide.
I wanted to update the look of the quizzes, so I created a new slide master, changed the size of the quiz, updated the results slide and made many other small changes to make it all look great. I published the course and decided to do my quality check Monday morning.
So Monday morning comes round. I check the published file and none of my changes were included in my quizzes. Hmm... what happened? That's when I noticed that my .quiz files did not appear to have been modified: the "Date Modified" was about three days before the time where I actually made changes.
That prompted me to look for at least one .quiz file. It had to be somewhere on my computer, right? I found them all in a randomly labelled folder in my temp files (C:\Users\igroulx\AppData\Local\Temp).
This brings up a few questions:
- Has anyone else encountered this problem?
- What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
Any guidance you can offer is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Isabelle

Hi Isabelle,
I haven't seen other reports of the issue you're describing, but wanted to share some general guidelines when working with your Presenter, Quizmaker and Engage files:
If you'd like to package your Presenter files for us to look at as well, please send them on the second page of this link.
Hi Ashley,
Thank you for your response. I should have mentioned that I've been using Studio since 2005, so I've learned to work locally. I always bring all my files in the folder "My Articulate Projects". Additionally, we have a corporate IT policy that restricts the length of file names as well as the use of special characters, spaces, accents, or symbols in file names.
Now that I've relinked all the quizzes, I'm not sure that you would find anything in my files. I'll watch out for this problem and if it reoccurs, I'll package the files and send them over to you.
Thanks!
Isabelle
Thanks Isabelle - I always like to start with the general guidelines, just in case.
I'm glad that you've got everything working now, but if you encounter a problem again, please don't hesitate to share the files with our Support team.
Hi,
I too have had issues of this kind. I click 'edit in engage' or 'Edit in Quizmaker' and once the changes are made click 'save and return' and it appears to be going all fine. Then when I come back to the lesson a day later - all the changes are lost (even if I click 'edit in Engage/Presenter again'.
I am working locally in the 'My articulate' folder, the character length is less than 260.
Any suggestions?
Kate
Hi Kate! Is yours storing in a temp folder as well? You need to be sure that your publish settings are set to update your quiz as explained here.
I'm having the same problem. When I update a Quiz or Engage file within the Presenter file, the Quiz and Engage files are being saved to a temp folder. I thought they weren't saving at all until I read others' posts about the temp files.
Leslie, I don't see the presenter options you refer to in the link above (I'm using Studio '13). Also, I'm not sure if that is the issue since this happens when I'm simply updating the interaction within the Presenter file, not publishing.
Hi Laura! Yes, the information I shared above was for Studio '09.
When you insert an Articulate Quizmaker quiz or Articulate Engage interaction into your Articulate Presenter course, a copy of the original *.quiz or *.intr file is stored within the course's *.ppta file. This means that if you ever lose the original quiz or interaction file, you'll still be able to edit and publish it in Presenter. Please review this article for more information.
I have had the same problem and found over 120 files with my work in it I couldn't find. I thought I was loosing it... ;-) Found them now, using all of the info. here and onward and upward now...Thank you for the info!!
Glad that this thread was able to assist you as well Stephanie. Thanks for popping in to share.
Thanks a lot. I have a timing and hot spot design I am attempting. Could I email the file to someone to see if they can figure out what I am missing to make the hot spot work? Or if the design is possible?
Hi Stephanie!
You are welcome to share the Articulate Package for us to take a look here via the 'Add Attachment' button in your reply.
If you are unable to share publicly here in the forums, then share the same package here privately.
Hi again!
I actually just saw a submission from you (00766194), so I will take a look.
