RISE + SABA + Browsers = course not marking successful when closing browser

Jul 27, 2020

Course built in Rise, exported for LMS, SCORM 1.2, Passed/Incomplete, Exit button displaying, (marked complete when reach 80% pages)

Works great in:

  • IE 11 (84.0.4147.89)- course updates LMS as expected when using Exit button &closing browser.  Course does bookmark

Issues in:

  • Chrome (11.3564.14393.0) - course does not update when exiting using browser button & does not bookmark.  Course only updates LMS when using Exit button in Rise Module
  • Edge (84.0.522.40) - course does not update when exiting using browser button & does not bookmark. Course only updates LMS when using Exit button in Rise Module
  • Firefox (77.0.1) - course does not update when exiting using browser button & does not bookmark. Course only updates LMS when using Exit button in Rise Module
  • Brave (1.11.97)-course does not update when exiting using browser button & does not bookmark. Course only updates LMS when using Exit button in Rise Module

Does anyone have a fix for using RISE in other browsers?  Please let me know what additional information you may need.   Would appreciate any help available.

Hi Cindy,

We do not use SABA, but I'm commenting to add our perspective.

The only time our LMS records student progress data and bookmarking information, is when students use the Course Exit link.

If students simply close the browser window, no data from that session is recorded. That applies to all browsers.

Based on what I've read on the forums, some LMS's always require the use of the Course Exit link. There is no fix, as this is how these LMS's function.

Thank you Karl, appreciate the reply.  Thought it was me and doing something wrong.  We use Storyline 360 for most courses and they work fine either way (exiting using browser or exit).  We have a new developer who wants to use RISE.  We will have to train our learners to use the EXIT link/button.  Many thanks.  Happy Monday.

Hello, Cindy! A quick note that Brave is not a supported browser for viewing Rise 360 content. You'll want to stick with the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, and Safari.

If your LMS was recording progress and completion without using the Exit Course link, and suddenly it's not, it could have to do with a change that Chromium-based browsers are experiencing. Here are the details:

Chrome has deprecated a technology that was used by many LMSs to allow a course to communicate back to the LMS when the course window is closed. If your LMS hasn't upgraded their system, or if you're using an older version of your LMS that doesn't include an update to address this change, the course cannot communicate progress or completion properly. This causes learners to start over from the beginning instead of resuming a course or recording completion after they close the browser window.

Please reach out to your LMS and find out if they have released an update to address the Chrome changes. In the meantime, using the Exit Course link should help. If you need support from us with the technical details, please let us know by starting a case with us here.
