Setting focus in Rise 360
Aug 03, 2021
I have two questions about author's capacity to set focus in Storyline 360. We are experiencing two focus management issues which create an inaccessible experience for screen reader/keyboard users.
1) In our course, we have a side navigation menu. When a chapter/lesson in the side navigation is selected, keyboard focus is set to the hamburger menu button in the main content region. Screen reader users report that this is confusing; they do not understand that a new lesson has appeared. Is it possible to instead set focus to the <h1>, the lesson title?
2) In each lesson, there is a Read more button to progress to the next part of the lesson. When the Read More button is activated, the button is removed and new content dynamically appears after that button. The browser window scrolls to the new content but focus does not move to the heading at the start of the new content. This results in no announcement to screen readers that page content has changed. Is it possible to set focus to the heading at the start of the new content?

Hi Aaron! Thanks for reaching out!
To clarify, did you experience this when using a Storyline 360 block within Rise 360?
Could you please let us know the Screen Reader application version you're using as well as the browser version you experienced this with?
This is with all screen readers. It's a focus management, not unique to any screen reader. I could share the course privately.
Hi Aaron,
Sure! You can share your course with us privately here and one of our technical support engineers can take a look. Please include the link to this thread when you submit the case.
