Is there any way to show a tab or accordion style interaction as viewed as the learner views each area? I have a course that has 8 blocks in accordion style and it is hard to tell when it has been viewed so I was hoping there was a way to add a "checkmark" or something similar so that learners know which ones they have already opened?

One option you could try is
Add a Continue block from the Divider Library
Then click the Edit and change the Completion Type to Complete Block Directly Above.
