Text Spacing

Aug 21, 2023

Hey!

I have a question about text spacing, as it relates to the accessibility guidelines WCAG 2.1, level AA.

Success Criterion 1.4.12 states that in order to be compliant text spacing can be altered up to the following dimensions without any loss of content or functionality:

Line height (line spacing) to at least 1.5 times the font size
Spacing following paragraphs to at least 2 times the font size
Letter spacing (tracking) to at least 0.12 times the font size
Word spacing to at least 0.16 times the font size.

My question is:
1) Can those 4 features be altered with Rise?
2) If not, do you have any information you can share for set text sizes? For instance, working with font size 20, what would the letter spacing be, etc.?

Thanks!

Clara

Hello Penelope! (& Natalie 😄)

Yes! Rise 360 courses comply with the success criterion 1.4.12 Text Spacing. We allow learners to use their own settings to set the text spacing.

The success criterion is more geared to the end-users, that they are not prevented from using their own text spacing preferences, for example, they prefer to view it using their own custom CSS, bookmarklets, or tools that can customize these properties.

Hope it helps!
