Hi there, I have loaded an MP4 video into one of my Rise courses. The thumbnail Rise has generated isn't great (my video subject looks half asleep), but I am not sure how to change it. I noticed on another thread a suggestion to add an image as the first frame instead of starting with video. Would this be a work around I could use in this situation?
Rise will display the first frame of a MP4 video as the thumbnail. You can use a video editing tool like Replay to add an image to the first frame of the video, then re-publish the video as a MP4 file.
I agree, having the ability to add, choose a thumbnail would be the most intuitive approach and is what I was expecting. Everything else is so well thought out, is this on the enhancement list by chance? I use the video's I create for multiple applications, so adding a frame is an annoying extra step.
Thanks, folks! I appreciate the candid feedback. Our product team is always keen to hear about customer needs, so I can certainly pass along your suggestion. And feel free to share any other ideas you have here: Feature Request Form.
I'm confused. My video already has a saved thumbnail for the frame and it is still loading up blank in Rise. Can you help me to resolve this. It just shows a white screen with start arrow.
Rise will display the first frame of a MP4 video as the thumbnail. It sounds like the first frame of the video could be white. Could you try using a video editing tool to delete the white frame from the beginning of the video?
+1 as well -- but as a follow up -- has anyone noticed the unnatural filter that is on the thumbnails? It's making the acting talent look really weird. It is unsaturating/removing a red hue. Our actress, for example, has red lipstick on, which totally disappears in the frame-grab.
Hi Alex! Rise 360 does apply a slight filter to the video thumbnail image, but I can definitely see the difference in the screenshots you shared. I'll keep an eye out for other mentions of this. Thanks for bringing it up to us!
I'll also raise my hand as someone who'd like to see a feature where an image other than the first frame of the video can be set as the thumbnail for a video in Rise. Thanks for listening to your users!
+1 as well. I am creating templates for our developers and this would be a much easier add for our needs. I would even be happy with uploading my own image file instead of selecting a frame within the video.
Hi Guys. Just thought I’d share my workaround for this. I am hosting videos on H5P.com and then embedding them to rise. H5P then gives you control over the starting screen but you still get the play button etc overlayed.
Yes, it's 10:06pm PST and now I've got to add a frame in Camtasia for a thumbnail lest it be a black screen. I hope you'll add this feature at some point. Much appreciated
+1 to adding this feature! Much needed when our first frame is blank because that is the starting point for the animation following (fade from white to vidéo transition used)

I hope that helps!
Thanks Alyssa, that does help!
I'd love to see a feature in Rise where you can select the desired thumbnail for an embedded video!

Alyssa beat me to it - thanks Robert for the idea. 😀

Thanks! Yeah -- may start from a fade to fix it for now. It's not super flattering ;)

+1 from me. I also just turned in a feature request for that,
+ 1 from me
Thank you folks! I've updated the request to include all of the customer impact here. I'll post any updates to this discussion.
+1 from me. I like to use an intro transition on my videos, and with this my first few frames are blank.

+1 feature request: ability to set thumbnail image
We'd like the thumbnail option too. Cheers

Plus one on needing this feature.

Fairly unbelievable that this post was created 3 years ago, and there is no fix yet. There is one easy way to get around it of course; use video hosted on Vimeo: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/rise-360/adding-vimeo-clips-into-a-rise-360-course
