Very cool, but I would suggest replacing the drag and drop interaction with clicking. Here's why:
Despite the presence of textual instructions that say, "Drag the circle to explore our history", I found myself resorting to habitual behaviour - clicking.
Dragging the mouse is usually reserved for scrolling. There's usually a visual indicator, a scroll bar, to let me know that I must drag. If that visual cue isn't present, people are going to click. That behaviour is so habitual that it's automatic. As a result, learners will be confused by this timeline interaction despite the presence of instructions. (The only exception that I can think of is interfaces that remind users of video and arcade games, where the controls are a bit different.)

The white text on the semi-transparent red background is hard to read. I know you want to keep the colour scheme red, but it is having a negative impact on readability.
Hello Matt, I tried to express a query but have not had a response, should I have directed this in a different way? You were my Articulate Storyline 2 trainer, so given I haven't asked any questions was hoping you could coach me on this one. Thanks in advance.
Hi Anne (and Steve)
I have just used Matt's timeline (thanks Matt, looks great) and seen issue when duplicating. I simply duplicated slide, but then had to change the name of the object titled 'Slider 1' on the duplicated slide.
Ie on first slide the slider will be 'Slider 1' and will be linked to a variable titled 'Slider 1'.
When you duplicate the slide:
- go to one of the triggers (ie show layer trigger) and open for editing;
- in the 'Show Condition' field it will state the name of the variable that the trigger is linking to (ie Slider 2);
- you need to change the name of the slider object on this slide so that it is named the same as the variable.
ie to do this:
- on the timeline, find the slider object;
- double click on its name, and rename it the same as what ... Expand

You may need to refresh/update all of the triggers that reference the variable/slider. Just open and resave.
Hope this makes sense. If not happy for you to upload the story file for me to amend.
Cheers Christine
Hi Christine,
I am planning to use this slide in the first e-learning module that I am creating. However, I'm having issues with the font size when I hover the circle. One of the numbers is going down. Do you have any suggestion on how to correct it?
This is greatly useful - thanks!
Question - How would I change the image in each of the layers? I dont see an image object in the timeline.
Thanks for response.

Just followed your instruction set above to rename the slider in the duplicated slide. Still no action on the layers. I changed the slider name to Slider2....but.....??
Hi Christine –
Yes, I would welcome any assistance!
I am coming back to Storyline after a long absence and am a bit befuddled with some of the behavior of the interaction, and also with the Master slides I am trying to establish for a template.
How would I get the file to you?
I'm hoping someone can help me with what is sure to be an easy thing, that I just can't figure out! I am NOT an instructional designer, but have taken on a pseudo-designer role in my current position. I've been working in storyline2 for a while now, and have been tasked with spicing up our compliance training. I downloaded this template and love it. The timeline feature should be received well. My challenge is (and forgive me if I'm not using the correct terminology!) changing the years on the timeline to something else. I've renamed them, or at least I thought I renamed them, but they still show as the years on the slide. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you!!
Hi, if you click on the first circle with the arrow, then there is a block that surrounds all the other circles as well, move this circle with the arrow up and you will be able to change the dates.
