When you add a Quizmaker ‘09 quiz to an e-learning course that you build in Articulate Presenter, you have a flexible way to tailor your learners’ experience when they’re finished with your quiz. You can do things such as:

  • Branch the learner to a different part of your course,
  • Cause the window to close, or
  • Take the learner to the URL of your choice, such as another course, or a website that enhances or complements your quiz content.

In fact, you can even specify different finish actions for the quiz, based on whether the learner passes or fails.

The finish action is part of the quiz properties that you choose from within Presenter. Your choices will be slightly different, depending on whether you’ve added your quiz as a slide within your course, or as a tab on your course player. Here’s how to set up your preferences:

If Your Quiz Is on a Slide in Your Course...

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Access the quiz properties for the quiz you want to work with. You can do this one of two ways:
    • Go to the quiz placeholder slide and click in the Properties area at the bottom.
    •  Or, click Quizmaker Quiz on the Articulate menu. On the window that appears, click the Quizmaker Quizzes tab on the left edge. Select your quiz from the middle of the window.
  3. In the Quiz Properties part of the window, use the top two selectors to choose what happens when the user passes or fails your quiz:
    • Closes window:  If you choose this, then when learners finish the quiz, the browser window in which they’re viewing your course will close.
    • Goes to URL: If you choose this, you’ll be able to enter the URL of the web page you’d like your user to see when they finish your quiz. Your quiz and course won’t remain open when the learner finishes the quiz — instead, learners will see whatever web page you choose.
    • Goes to [slide]:  If you choose this, learners will go to whichever slide in your course you specify.
  4. Click Close when you’re finished.

If your quiz includes a result slide at the end, a Finish button will appear on the result slide, and when the learner clicks it, the finish action you’ve specified will happen.

If your quiz does not include a result slide, then the Finish button will instead appear on the feedback pop-up for the final quiz question. Or, if your final question doesn’t include question feedback, there won’t be a Finish button at all—the finish action will just happen immediately after learners submit the answer to the final question.

If Your Quiz Is on a Player Tab...

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Click Quizmaker Quiz on the Articulate menu.
  3. On the window that appears, click Player Tabs on the left edge.
  4. Select your quiz from the middle of the window.
  5. In the Quiz Properties part of the window, use the top two selectors to choose what happens when the user passes or fails your quiz:
    • Closes tab:  If you choose this, then when learners finish the quiz, the tab in which they’re viewing your quiz will roll back up, and the learner will be on the same slide from which they accessed your quiz.
    • Goes to URL: If you choose this, you’ll be able to enter the URL of the web page you’d like your user to see when they finish your quiz. Your quiz and course won’t remain open when the learner finishes the quiz—instead, learners will see whatever web page you choose.
