Is it possible to use the scenario block for basic content branching? I need to have a large chunk of general content then the user needs to decide which area they work in to choose which content they'll follow. Then ultimately complete the course when they reach the end.
I'm not sure about that last bit - can you set the course to complete on a page as you can in Storyline?
Hey LP, I've just started playing with this block but if you wanted to you could use the text option instead of the dialogue option - as long as you aren't adding large chunks of content you could branch to different scenes.
But, you wanted a large chunk of content, so you'd need to use the buttons component for your branching and then have course completion tracked based on the learner completing a quiz (in your publishing settings).
The Scenario has "two characters". You could always branch to a related scenario and introduce another person, but you'd need to have a text item between them to explain who was speaking or how the conversation had progressed.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ayesha,
I've confused things. The second person isn't seen :(.
BTW: I've been playing with SMS conversations to bring home a point in a few of our modules lately. It's time-consuming to create these and I've resorted to using video for one of the examples but there are online SMS conversation image generators that do a fairly good job. It's not what you're asking about but could change things up a bit if used sparingly. https://ifaketextmessage.com/ lets you change a few things on screen to make it look more real (like the carrier name). Here's an example I created for a recent course.
Here's an example https://rise.articulate.com/share/tqj0wscaKtObSdDiilsA2pbjsVykob1g
This is a fantastic addition to Rise! And just what I needed to see today as I'm working on developing a branching scenario that is supported with micro-video segments. My question is about ending a scenario...
Let's say (for example) that I start with a scenario, the learner goes through the scenario and reaches the end. From there, I'd like to offer links to the (3) coaching feedback sections with micro-video segments, or they can jump right into the next scenario as a sort of pretest. I can't figure out how to create that link map at the end of a scenario. It seems to be locked into starting over again. Any way to change that button to link to existing blocks, outside of the scenario blocks?
Great video! You noted how important it is plan out the dialogue prior to designing the Scenario Blocks in Rise. Do you have any best practices or recommendations on how to organize that storyboard?
Thanks!
Here's a document I use to help plan out the scenario content.

I made a short lik here. For some reason it doesn't open in the browser from ELH, but if you copy and paste the URL that should work.

How come in your video the background images are clear but when I create it in Rise the images are blurry?
Also, can you do two characters on one screen?
@Ronda: as it is currently, the background image will have a blur applied to it which I mention in the tutorial.
Currently, you can only add one character which is how the dialogue is set.
I really like this tool, it's a great addition to Rise. Is it possible to upload your own character images? Or even hide the character altogether?
I find this style of character a little cheesy.
For some reason, I am getting a "Scenario Completed" slide in the middle of my scenario. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I'd like for it to advance to the next content slide or scene, whichever is next. This is occurring after a scene that does not require the learner to interact, so I do not have access to the "Go to" menu. I tried leaving the response field blank and accessing it that way, but an empty dialog box appeared where the response would go. Any suggestions?
I just figured out a solution. I had to switch from dialogue to text, use the "Go to" menu from there to choose the next slide, and then switch back to dialogue.
Thank you for this tuto!
I'm wondering if there is any tracking and reporting of the user's performance at the end of the scenario? Thank you for your attention.
Good addition but it would have been better if this were a more complete tool. one person scenarios not good. I attempted to add text with bullet points and I notice that when I press enter it will not create a new bullet. I cannot add a line space either. It seems like the enter button is disabled when adding text. It only free flows to the next line. Is this supposed to be this way or is it my computer. This was not covered in the tutorial or anywhere else I can find.
Is there an option to NOT choose a character. We do not like any of the character options for a farmer scenario. If I could choose to remove the character completely then I can add one on the background image I upload.
UPDATED: the comment below is no longer valid.
You can start from a blank scene and not add a character. That's not ideal for what you want to do because the background gets a slight blur.
If you add a character and export the course. You can open the assets folder and swap the character in the folder with your own. Just make sure you don't change the name and file type. And keep your image about the same aspect ratio.
How do I start with a blank scene? Every time I add a scenario block it defaults to a character. Same when adding a scene within the scenario block. Also, I've tried adding a scenario block and then deleting the scenes within it (as an attempt to start completely new) and I get a blank webpage.
Hmmm...looks like we made changes to Rise when you insert a new scene. In the original video (2:50) you'll notice that if you delete the scene and add a new one, it's empty. But it looks like you can't delete and have nothing.
In either case, if you want to remove the characters or swap them, you can always go into the published output and do so from there.
Hi Tom.
Thank you for the demonstration. I am using a branched scenario in the template Handling Upset Customers and I do not get the option to continue and unlock the rest of the content at the end. I tried adding new content with text instead of dialogue but the only option for navigation from there is Go to End Scenario - which pulls me back into that loop - only start over and the Continue button is not available on the screen. Any thoughts or suggestions for how to advance in this template?

Open peek, record what you need and then it auto uploads to Review and gives you a link to share. We use it all the time at work in lieu of meetings to share ideas or whatnot. It's what I use for the tutorials I share in the community.
I did not have Peek downloaded but I do now. Sorry - I am really new to this.
I think this is the link you are looking for to my Peek video.

Thanks for sharing. I see the issue. You're working in the scenario block and when you preview, you're only previewing the block.
If you go into the lesson and preview, you'll see the entire lesson. Or you can go to the course level and preview the entire course.
This shows it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help. I see it now and everything is working and good to go.
I learned a lot from your video and trying to sort this out. There is learning in the struggle!
Is there a way to edit the character's pose on the End Scenario slide? I watched a few of your videos on how to edit the text for the End Scenario section, but not how to edit the character's pose. Currently, it ends and she has a very sour look on her face. I want it to be positive and I cannot find anywhere I can edit that. Please help!!
When you create a scene, you can insert a character in its neutral pose. As you build the scene you can select the character's pose relevant to what you're building.
Eventually, they'll click something that takes them to the end of the scenario. You can change the pose. When they click continue it takes them to the wrap up screen with the option to start over. That screen will show the default neutral pose.
We've submitted a feature request for this, but wanted to call it out here as well. We have the option to hide character on the opening scene, but not on the final end scenario scene. This is a problem, as a lot of characters don't have a very nice "neutral" pose. They seem angry or dissatisfied. Since ending the scenario is often a goal of accomplishment, this can be off-putting to clients/users. We recommend adding the option to hide the character on the final scene and/or the ability to change the pose. Thanks!
I ran into this problem as well, I changed the opening character pose (original was Laura with a headset) and all scenarios however when I get to the completed screen (with "start over" ) its back to the pose with headset and it doesn't match the other scenarios. My client wants me to change it but I don't see a way to do it.
Also I recently encountered on Linked in a company that has templates for other ways to portray activities and questions in rise using storyline blocs that look like they are Rise blocs - Is this something Articulate is working on as well - they were very slick!
I love this block but have yet to use it. I would love to use it and the user be graded somehow on it. Is there a way to do that? They customer wants more multiple choice questions but I would love to grade their knowledge retention using scenarios. Any suggestions or ideas?
