Animations in the "Green Monster" sample course

Sep 06, 2012

I am using the trial version of Articulate Storyline, to really see what it is capable of and I thought I'd give myself the challenge of recreating the Green Monster sample course, from the Showcase.

I have been reading on the function of layers and triggers and states, but still cannot figure out how the animation of the fridge was done... I managed to make the banana appear on the shelves by using triggers to state changes. However, the rest of the items that were in the fridge, I could not manage (because first I needed to open the fridge, then show the items and then animate them based on the learner's choice... so I got stuck). Can you maybe explain how it was done, because I think being able to do these types of animations, would be a very powerful tool in my courses.

Thank you very much!

Thank you Matthew for the tip, I didn't think that the order of layers matters, your tip solved part of my problem.

Now I still struggle with the open and closed doors. To make them appear and disappear when they are supposed to and that they function independently of each other.

Also, I set two layers to start when timeline starts, but only one starts. Is it possible to make several layers start at the same time? (Basically, I want both doors to be closed at the beginning)

Thanks again!

Instead of making the closed fridge door dissapear, you could put the open fridge pick on top of it when you show the layer.  Or,  you could have three layers - with the base being the fridge with no doors, then one closed and one open.

Try adding triggers at the beginning of the page that tells the layers to show up at the beginning of the timeline.  Each layer's starting timeline doesn't mean that it will show up at the beginning.

I hope I'm not being confusing.  I feel like I  am...

That was my idea as well, had a layer with the fridge without doors and then separate layers with open and closed doors. the issue was though that the fridge had two doors and I could not manage opening and closing them separately.

I had two separate layers for the two closed doors but when I set it to start when timeline starts, only one was set (and it seemed to be the one that was first on the list). So I am wondering how I can  make two layers to be fired at the same time? Is it possible?

Hey Emma,

Are you talking about slide 1.2 (Find the stuff...)

The fridge is not really 'animated' it is a state change and gives the illusion that the door is swinging open rapidly.

For the freezer door - when the handle is clicked its state is changed to hidden, and the door changes from its closed shape of a rectangle with rounded top corners to a trapezoid shape.  This is all done on the same layer.
