Can't open Engage or Quizmaker

Jul 15, 2011

I have been using Articulate Studio '09 and it's been working great until a couple of days ago.  Now I cannot open Engage or Quizmaker (from within PowerPoint, or outside of PowerPoint); when I try, I see the brief "working" circle.. and then nothing.  Depending on how I try to open it, I might see the message "Articulate Engage '09 has stopped working.  Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.".. but evidently it never finds one.  I can open Presenter outside of PowerPoint, but in PowerPoint, none of the buttons on the Articulate ribbon work.  My company recently pushed down a lot of Microsoft updates, some specifically updating PowerPoint 2007.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Do I need to have the updates uninstalled in order to use Articulate?

Hi Casey and welcome to Heroes,

If Engage crashes on launch of the program it could be caused by an issue with your Regional and Language Settings on your computer. You might be affected by this if Engage crashes directly after the Articulate splash screen appears.

To correct the problem you need to reset your Regional and Language Settings. Here's how:

If you continue to have issues, please see the link below:

If you still have issues after that, can you tell me what operating system you have installed?  (XP, Vista, or 7)

Hi Brian - thanks for your response!  Still having issues, though.  I use Vista and PowerPoint 2007.

I followed the instructions on both links and neither worked.  :(  There was a plan B on the second link regarding an old service pack for Microsoft .NET that I couldn't do because it's not compatible with Vista.  I'm attaching screenshots of the message I get if I try to open Engage or Quizmaker outside of PowerPoint.  It's not really much of an error message, and I don't think it comes from Articulate.  If I try to launch from within PowerPoint, I do not receive a message, or see any other screen pop up.

Hi Casey,

Can you download the Articulate software again & then right click the installation file?  After that, choose to Run as an Administrator.  Choose to repair the installation.  When it's done, try to launch Engage or Quizmaker again.

If you still have issues, try disabling UAC and then restart the machine:
