Can you hide file extensions in Media Tour '13?

Nov 07, 2013

I am seeing files extensions in Engage '13 - Media Tour. Can this be changed as I do not want to show the file type in my table of contents as shown in the image.

Hmm. I see how I can change the text in the main slides however it is not seeming to show the different Media Tour media...

In the image above, QMS Video Help is a Media Tour Engage interaction and each of the mp4 files listed (Power User Tutorial, ect.) are "items" within that interaction. I also tried it with images and it shows the file extension in each as well. Is there a way to get rid of the file extensions?

Hi Dane,

Hm, I see that now you're correct - it doesn't seem to show the ability to change the titles there. So, I tried to recreate what you're describing by adding mp4 and jpegs to my media tour, and those do not appear as the title for that part of the interaction. What do you have as the title for each section within the interaction?  The yellow arrow below indicates what my Presenter file is picking up to title that slide.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for checking in here, and I looked into Laurie's case and it was determined that this was by design and a feature request. I included the response below for you as well to see the explanation and the additional recommendations:

In Engage, you can change the title of the Engage steps, but once this is inserted in Presenter, Presenter uses the filenames of the media in the Menu. Unfortunately, we don't currently support changing this filename / step title in the Presenter Menu. I have submitted a feature request on your behalf. You probably already received an email from us letting you know. As an FYI, you can always submit feature requests hereWe look forward to your ideas!

In the meantime, if you wouldn't want to display the filenames of your inserted media in the Presenter menu, a workaround is to hide the title of the steps of the Engage slide in the Presenter menu, so only the Engage slide title is displayed. You will just need to set the "Show in menu" option in the Engage Interaction Properties to "Single item". Here's how to customize interaction properties in Articulate Presenter '13.
