Engage 13 - Transparent background

Dec 18, 2013

Hi,

I have added an engage '13 interaction to my pptx (ppt2013).

As color scheme for this engage interaction I have chosen 'Forest Green'.

However, when I look at the preview via Powerpoint, then there is a blue background.

Two questions:

1. Where does this blue come from? I can't find it in any color scheme (not from the Presenter player, not in the engage interaction)

2. Actually, I don't want any background. I want all to be transparent, so that I see the background of the Powerpoint slide. Setting transparency to 100% in the color settings of Engage interaction doesn't work or is not enough.

Hi Christophe,

You can certainly modify the transparency of the background color, but you'll need to modify this in Engage itself.

Open your Engage interaction (either through Engage or Presenter) and click on the "Colors' option in the "Tools" section of the ribbon. From here, click on "Create New Theme Colors" and you'll see that blue in the first color option for "Background".

If you click on the blue, the menu will drop down for that color. There's an additional option for "Opacity". Drag the slider all the way to the left.

Now, when you're previewing in Presenter, and if the background isn't changing, try to make sure you're previewing the entire presentation. If you only preview the Engage slide, it may not update properly.

Let me know if you have any questions, or still have trouble with this.

Thanks!

Thanks, Christine, and I'm not worthy.

I'm trying to get the my Engage background transparent (slide the opacity all the way to the left), and it's still not changin'. Even why I preview the whole slide, and when I publish. I'll attach the Engage. Maybe I'm missing something?

Hi Daniel,

I just responded to your private message, but I wanted to share the information here as well.

Currently, the way this works is that the background will successfully turn transparent, but in doing so you see the player color. So, what this means is you won't see any content behind the interaction, other than the player. If you put design behind it, say in a PowerPoint slide, you won't see this.

Here's an example I created with your project, Daniel:

Example for Daniel

As you can see in the first interaction, the blue background shows up in the slide. In the second interaction, the black from the player is shown - the background from the interaction is transparent, but you cannot see the original slide design through this.

The good news is, however, that we are working on something that will allow design to show through. It's just not available yet - I'm personally really looking forward to this.

I hope this helps! If you have any trouble, please let me know.

Have a great day,

Christine

Hi Daniel! :)

I haven't seen any official announcements, since we last spoke, but I do believe the beta is available for the update that should provide this feature.

If you're not already active in the Studio '13 Update 3 beta, you shouldn't have any trouble getting in. Just send an email to beta@articulate.com and let them know that you're interested in participating.

I hope this helps!

Hi- just wanted to clarify - I was following the guidance in a old screen cast posted by Jeanette Brooks to use your master slide to show thru on Engage interactions to create seamless transitions.... following the same guidance as making the Engage 100% transparent--- and I cannot seem to get the outline, etc. to disappear - I make the background transparent, but there are still other elements that are obscuring to see the master slide (even though I allow master slide to show).  Is this caused by the same issue for which you describe a fix-in-the-works? Thanks, Tammy
