A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player to run slowly

Mar 03, 2014

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with an old Articulate Presenter file that we're trying to update. Opening, editing and publishing all seem to work fine, however, when trying to view the presentation (which has been published for web) I get the error "A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player to run slowly...".

I have read the other thread which refers to this problem, and the general consensus seems to be its a hardware/internet issue. Now I'd believe this if the file only had issues running on our work PCs (old, slow, running IE 7 and on a slow network), however, I'm getting the same issue when running it on my new iMac, in all browsers, running online on our own server using a dedicated wifi network, as well as running locally from my hard drive.

The isn't even that big (2.6MB), and in terms of content, the bulk of this size is coming from a couple of FLVs in there.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this? I'm stumped. Like i said, personally I cant believe that it's simply the flash player having issues with the size/content, because I've run bigger, more content-rich files without any problems.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Hi Andrew!

Adobe Flash Player will present this alert when a single script continues to run for 15 seconds or longer, giving viewers the option to end the script, which helps the Flash Player prevent an SWF file from freezing the viewer's browser or system indefinitely.

Note: The warning dialog box has "Yes" and "No" buttons. After pressing the "No" button three times (approximately 15 seconds in between prompts), the data is correctly loaded and displayed.

This issue is intermittent and depends upon the processing power and speed of each individual machine. Unfortunately, this error message is provided by the Adobe Flash Player, and Articulate does not have any control over it.

Perhaps someone in the community may be able to assist.

Hi Leslie,

Thank you for replying. I understand why this message is being displayed, but personally I find it hard to believe that a brand new iMac is struggling to run a moderately sized presenter file as much as a 6 year old work PC. Add to that the fact that when clicking "no" on the popup a few times as suggested doesn't resolve the issue, and clicking yes the content does not display correctly but instead shows the incorrect player skin and random components in the main window, flickering in and out of view (see image below), leads me to believe that this is more of an issue than an unresponsive script.

I'm also certain (although dont quote me on this, it's something I need to follow up on) that this issue has happened with other Articulate Presenter files of varying sizes and content types. However, not once have I had this issue when producing storyline presentations, some of which are considerable larger in size and more complex in nature.

If it is simply a flash player / script timeout issue then I'll have to find some way round it, but as I have said, I dont feel that this is that simple, given the factors I've described.

Thank you again,

Andy
