Adding a video to play 'on click'

Jul 13, 2011

I'd like to add a video for the user to play if they want more information on the topic. For example, I give them the basics of the company and they can play the history video if they want more background. I'm trying to trim down the main presentation to just the basics and and the user can watch only the videos they choose to.

They are MP4 or can be streamed from a server.

Hi Janine & welcome to Heroes,

One option is to use Quizmaker as your video player similar to what's described here:

Another idea is to create a copy of your slide that contains all of the information and then import the video into that slide.  On the slide before it, have a box that says "click here to start a movie" or even a screenshot of the video.  Then, link that box to the slide that actually contains the video.  This would make it look like the end-user clicked on the video to make it start playing.  If necessary, you could go into Slide Properties and setup the branching so that the second copied slide only appears if they click on the box.

Another option is to use Engage to create a video "library" using the Tabs interaction or another interaction if you prefer.  I mention the Tabs interaction because I have done something similar in the past using the Tabs interaction.  I used the intro slide as a way to tell the user how to navigate the videos and then used  a tab for each following video.  When you import the video you can choose to add a playbar or to have it autostart.  If you are creating a presentation in PPT you can then insert the Engage Interaction as a slide or as a tab in the Articulate Player.
