controling slides
Feb 08, 2011
I am having problems with the navigation of my slides. If you go to
http://preview.theorangegrove.org/training/level2contribute/player.html
Click on Tutorial 8: Review, Moderation & Administer --> the video won't play. It goes directly to the self assessment. This error is also occurring in other tutorials (eg Tutorial 1, 7). I know it must be something small that I am not doing but it is driving me crazy.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin- welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
Does the video play OK on its own (outside Articulate Presenter)? What's the format of the video ( .SWF, .FLV, or .MP4), and how did you insert it into your course? I assume you used Articulate -> Flash Movie, right?
Here's a good article to review:
Flash movie best practices
Here is the link to the swf file by itself http://preview.theorangegrove.org/training/level2contribute/SWFS/review_moderation.swf
I did indeed use the Articulate -->Flash Movie. It shows a 'F' icon in the Slide Properties so it appears to be recognizing it
I will check all of the other settings from the link you sent....it has to be something small because some of mine play but others don't.
In the Slide properties, I have set it to Display in Slide, Sychronization: Movie Plays Independently of SLide, start in 2 seconds.
In the Change View of Slide Properties, I have set the videos to 'Slide Only' and then the next slide is 'Standard'
Still stuck....
Thanks for confirming, Robin. You might want to try deleting the placeholder slide in PowerPoint, then reinserting the SWF file, and republishing. I downloaded your SWF file and didn't have any trouble inserting it and having it play on slide 2 of this presentation (same settings as you describe).
You could also try using Articulate -> Audio Editor to set the duration of the slide to match the video (though you shouldn't necessarily have to do that).
If you still have trouble, could you please create a Presenter Package and upload to our support team for review?
I'm able to play the video just fine outside of Articulate so the issue is within Articulate.
Q. I did notice some icons in the video. Are they suppose to be there?
Yes, these should be there. It is part of the screen being captured
Did you get the SWF file working, Robin? Did deleting and reinserting do the trick? If not, you may want to upload your project file for us to check out.
do you have an email that I can send the zip file to?
Hi, I solved my problem but I am now encountering duplication in audio on some captivate tutorials. Can you tell me how to address this problem?
http://preview.theorangegrove.org/training/level1/published_overview/player.html
Hi Robin- it sounds like that may be an issue on the Captivate side. What version are you using? There's a solution below for Captivate 4, but not for Captivate 5:
Using Captivate 5 and hearing duplicate audio from inserted .swf files
If you want to upload your project to us (as outlined above), we can take a look for you, too, to confirm the issue is not on the Articulate side.
P.S. Glad to hear you solved the original issue, though!
If you open video in Captivate, check your layers to make sure that the audio is not embedded twice. I know when I was developing flash and I would insert sound, I sometimes accidentally added the audio file twice to a scene.
