Electronic Student Affidavit
Apr 09, 2012
I am faced with a regulatory agency requirement that "providers of distance learning courses shall obtain, electronically or through other means, a signed and dated statement from each student certifying that he or she personally completed the course."
Any thought on how I might accomplish this electronically using PResenter and/or Quizmaker?
Anyone actually faced with this requirement and how did you reach success ?
Thank you ... Bill

Hi Bill,
Quizmaker offers an option to email a certificate. Another option would be to include a certificate of completion on the final slide of a course. Using restricted navigation, you can prevent learners from viewing or printing the certificate until they've completed the entire course.
In most cases, such tracking and validation is handled by an external database or LMS. Articulate Online is a popular solution, but there are lots of small, medium and large LMS solutions.
I think solutions will depend a bit on the level of validation you're required to provide. One of the reasons LMS are popular is they make it easier to track and validate course completions.
Hi David,
how would I go about e-mailing a certificate through Quizmaker?
Thanks.
Hi Frank - You can customize the report.html file that Quizmaker creates for reporting. Here's a link on how you customize the report.html page. It's not a fully supported approach, but folks have had good success with it in the past.
Bill,
Using the email feature to report on user completions is a road I wouldn't go down myself. However, if it's the only avenue you've got, then that's your solution.
Do you have access to an LMS?
James,
I am using Articulate Online as my LMS.
Whick LMS should I be using ?
I chose AO since this is an integrated package and I can stay focused
on getting results rather than what tool to use. Once I have the business
operational, everything/anything can change.
I am not contemplating going down the "Quizmaker emails a completion certificate" pathway.
As a stop gap measure, I am exploring preparing such a rerquired document and attaching it to the presentation as a PDF file and requiring the student to print the document, fill in the blanks (i.e. student name, license #, date course completed, etc.) sign & date the document then FAX it to me using a toll-free FAX number. At lease on the surface, it would seem this approach fulfills the letter of the law, a bit inconvenient for the student, but the law is the law.
Once I get something working and generating some revenue, I plan to enter the slickification phase and provide some sort of electronic signature to fulfill the requirement.
Thoughts? Comments? Snide remarks?
LOL, no snide remarks here. I'm not sure if this meets your business needs, but for our regulatory requirements, we usually have a list of questions such as (silly example):
I agree to take a shower before coming to work.
YES NO
I agree to dress appropriately.
YES NO
The user must agree (answer yes) to all questions which gives them a score of 100% which is the custom completion criteria. Anyone with a score of less than 100% is not in compliance and is subject to some kind of repercussion. We are able to run reports from our LMS to identify those users who have not completed the course.
Nice solution, James.
