I have a PNG image within one of my slides. It looks normal before publishing. When published, it appears to be blurry. I tried adding the image directly to the slide, instead of it being a background image in the Slide Master, yet still no success. I also re-saved the image and made it a JPEG. This still did not change the quality of the image when published. Attached are screenshots of the before and after images. Any ideas on a resolution?
Be sure that you are using out latest version, Studio '13 Update 1, which can be found here.
Have you tried adjusting your publish quality settings in Presenter '13?
You can check your current publishing settings by clicking on Publish >> Method (Web, LMS, etc.) >> Quality link.
It should look something like this:
Also, make sure that you're not viewing your published project files locally. If you view a published Studio '13 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:
First of all, let me say that E-Learning Heroes is really an amazing resource for support and new ideas, many thanks for all your efforts!
We are currently in the process of transferring our Studio '09 modules to Studio '13 and creating new modules with the new tool. We experience similar issues with blurry images after publishing however (which we didn't have with Studio '09 or Storyline). Update 1 is installed, quality settings are at highest level. Viewing the presentations right after publishing or after uploading to the LMS makes no difference. Slides that looked perfectly sharp with Presenter '09 look blurry with Presenter '13: identical contents, identical settings (please find example attached). PNG or JPG make no difference too. I was following the recommendation to lock the browser window at optimal size, but for many slides, things become to small to read then so we need to go larger.
I tried to publish the same slide many times, 90% of the time I got blurry figures but sometimes I can get a sharp one. I used the same settings for publishing so it seems random. Hope this is helpful.
FYI--just installed the AP13 update 2 and published a course using the image quality setting of 100%. Unfortunately, I couldn't see any improvement regarding image quality (still significantly lower compared to the same course published in AP09).
Thanks Leslie. I haven't contacted support because I figured they were already aware of this issue. The course contains proprietary information, so I wouldn't be able to send it either.
Is this still being worked on? I have Update 2 installed and have been less than impressed with the image quality in my published courses, even with my output settings at 100%. I have a company logo in the corner of my master slide and even that looks soft.
Images may be blurry if your published output is scaled larger than its original size. To avoid scaling and to sharpen images, see the recommendations in this article.
If all of your settings are as mentioned above, you are welcome to submit your course to our support team to have a look at.
That seems to have helped. Thanks! It's tough because the screen I design on is pretty big. i changed the settings to lock the player to optimal size and it seems to be much improved on the 3 screens I tested on. Thanks again.
This thread is a bit older - but the information in terms of blurry or pixelated images if you're scaling your course still holds true as detailed here. It's also worth noting that, objects aren't vectored in HTML5 output. As a result, they may not appear as crisp in HTML5 as they do in Flash. For the best results, we recommend locking your course player at optimal size.
The thread is old, but one thing I have noticed (not mentioned above) is when I have my Articulate Presenter projcet lying on a server and publish, images gets blurry (mostly screenshots). If I move the project to my own computer and publish locally, the symptom dissapear.
Good information to share here, and a reminder that we do always recommend working locally on project files as described here. Working off a network or server is known to cause issues with courses based on latency issues.

Hi Brittany and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
I do not see a difference when viewing the images that you attached.
What version of Studio are you using?
Studio '09 image quality
Hello Leslie,
I'm using Articulate Presenter '13. The published image doesn't appear to be as sharp as the other one. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi David and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
We do have a couple of customers reporting this and our QA Team is looking into this.
I will add this thread for them to reference as well, but I do not necessarily have a solution to offer at this time while it is being investigated.
Locking the browser window at optimal size is what we recommend as you already know.
Ok, many thanks for your quick reply Leslie
No problem
I've been having the same issue. The pictures are very very blurry. Please let us know when there's an fix. Thanks

Thanks for sharing Jiawei! Are you locking the browser window at optimal size? This is what we recommend.
Hi Leslie, I tried but locking browser doesn't help.
Okay, thanks for the update. As I mentioned above, I'll pop in with an update when I can

Hi Nelson!
Is this anything that you've brought up or shared with support before?
Please be sure to package your course and send it to us if we need to take a look.

No problem Jason, thanks for the update!
I have the same problem with my logos.
My solution: Export them on 1000*750px (Slide Size) in png format. I was lucky to have to vector version.
