Interesting behaviour hyperlink underline: PPT to Articulate

Mar 16, 2016

I had a big long explanation of my problem, but it really boils down to: why is hyperlinked text displaying in so many different ways?

See Slide 1.2 vs Slide 1.4 vs Slide 1.8

Have tried all the Powerpoint tricks I can thing of, short of turning all my links into shapes, which I am loath to do.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Clay,

I used to see this problem frequently in Presenter 09 but not so much in Presenter 13. For Slide 1.8 in particular, try these steps:

1. Select the text box containing the hyperlink.

2. Open the Font dialog box by clicking the tiny little arrow in the lower right corner of the Font portion of PowerPoint's menu.

3. Click the Character Spacing tab at the top of the Font dialog box.

4. Change the Spacing dropdown to 'Condensed' and the By field to .1 (note that's one-tenth, not 1).

5. Click OK.

6. Preview the slide using Articulate's Preview feature to see if it corrects the problem.

Hello Clay,

I believe I fixed the issue for you on 1.4 and 1.8. The issue there was that you extended the text box from the content above to the text next to the brown icon. The indentation you were using in that area was confusing the layout and rendering the text/hyperlinks differently.

In the attached version of your project, I created a separate text box for slide 1.4 and formatted the text to match the text on 1.8. I also adjusted the alignment of the icon and text box so that they both now layout inline with each other. This somewhat corrected the issue.

The other issue had to do with the font type you are using (Trebuchet MS). For some reason hyperlinks display differently in the player and online. Switching the font to Tahoma, which looks almost identical to Trebuchet MS, renders the hyperlinks the same throughout.

The lesson here is to use individual text boxes when the slide layout requirements dictate such. In this case, overlaying an image/icon and indenting the associated text to display it correctly would have been better accomplished via its own text box.

On our end, I will follow up with support to see if this issue with the Trebuchet MS font is a known bug.

Hope this helps.
