I want to try using slide-by-slide navigation buttons instead of the player's PREV and NEXT built-ins. I thought this would give me a little more slide real estate, but as you can see from the attached image, the space below the slide remains even though the buttons are gone. Is there a way to adjust this so the slide can take up the empty space, or doesn't Presenter allow me to do that even though no buttons will appear there?

Hi Kendra!
You have the option to modify your presentation size, but there will still be the space around the slide in the player.
You are welcome to submit a feature request if you would like to see this handled differently.
