Presenter HTML5 Web Output Slide Duration and Tabs Bug

Dec 01, 2015

Hello!

We've successfully exported our training course but noticed the following curious bug: If you view a lesson in a tab and that lesson contains multiple slides, the count-up duration of a particular slide will pause if you switch focus to another tab although the narration will continue!  This has the unpleasant side effect of having the narration end, but then you'll endure a big pause until the count-up resumes and the next slide's start time is encountered.  You can replicate this issue by doing the following:

1. Click a lesson which will begin to play.
2. Note the lesson time and create a new tab and go to that tab for ten seconds
3. Switch back to the original tab: you'll see the lesson time is where you left it and it will then resume its count-up. As each subsequent slide depends on the this timing to display, there can be pauses between slides or at the end of the lesson.

I realize people shouldn't be switching tabs and not watching their training, but users will of course do this.  Any bug fix for this?

Thanks Ashley!  Yes, our Company has been doing professional web development since 2000, and we're currently using Presenter in a custom web project for online training- so we're becoming very familiar with many of the associated challenges related to this topic! As consultants, we're always interested in working on interesting projects: any recommendation on how to best convey ourselves as a potential resource to those in need in the community?

Hi Timothy,

The best way to convey your value to the community is share resources, ideas, practices that they can implement. Once they see that you're already doing great work, then it's more likely that they may reach out to you for contract work. You can always share here in the product forums, especially if it's a technical issue - but you may also want to look at sharing examples in the Building Better Courses side of the forums (focused more on design, how to, etc.) and start participating in the E-Learning Challenges.

Also, did you see the new ELH user profile set up? A great way to highlight your work there as a part of the "Created by" section. There is an option to upload work and samples directly to your profile page.

Best of luck and looking forward to seeing what you share!
