Quiz Sending Passed Status Automatically when Retrying Quiz

May 20, 2014

I am deploying this course in Saba LMS and I am finding that the course is sending a passed status automatically when a learner re-takes a quiz (in the same session).

Here is the scenario:

1) Learner Fails Quiz (Everything is fine up to this point)

2) Learner clicks on Retry Quiz from results screen

3) The quiz reloads

4) If the learner closes out of the course (not answering any questions) the status automatically changes to Passed

OR

5) If the learner fails the quiz a second time, the status automatically changes to Passed.

I have loaded a test course to SCORM Cloud to test and the Detailed Activity Report is interesting:

Content set success to passed.

Course completion status changed to completed.

Course satisfaction status changed to passed.

Then a few lines down:

Course completion status changed to incomplete.

Course satisfaction status changed to failed.

It looks as though, since Saba received a Passed status, that is indeed what the Learner gets even though they have not passed the quiz. Can anyone provide any assistance/solution?

Thanks

Alicia

Hi Alicia!

I went through both of your scenarios in SCORM Cloud:

Here is the scenario:

1) Learner Fails Quiz (Everything is fine up to this point)

2) Learner clicks on Retry Quiz from results screen

3) The quiz reloads

4) If the learner closes out of the course (not answering any questions) the status automatically changes to Passed

OR

5) If the learner fails the quiz a second time, the status automatically changes to Passed.

And received either a failure or incomplete as expected. Never was I able to see 'Passed".

Tested in Articulate Online as well and working as expected.

Sounds like something that you may need to address with your LMS.

Leslie,

So when I tested in SCORM Cloud, the overall status stayed as Failed, but when I drilled down into the details of the launch history (Detailed Activity Report)  I was able to see where Course completion status was changed to Completed, Content set success to passed, and Course satisfaction status changed to passed (this happened when the quiz was failed and they re-tried). It then looks like the status are changed back to incomplete and failed, but it is looking like the LMS is picking up that passed/completed status and once that happens it seems that it is sticking as Passed and not changing back. Once something gets a status of passed, it stays passed.

Can you explain why Articulate is even sending a passed/completed status?

Thanks

Alicia

Hi Alicia! Thanks for the updated information. Are you utilizing the latest update for Studio '13?

You may find that your learning management system (LMS) incorrectly marks a course as Passed or Completed on a learner's second attempt when the following conditions are true:
*  The course is being tracked by an embedded quiz.
*  The learner attempts the course more than once and fails on each attempt.
This issue was fixed in Update 2 for Articulate Presenter. See this article for more information.
This would also explain why we are seeing different results

Hi Jessica!

Yes, we have similar documentation for SL2:

You may find that a course is marked Passed or Completed in your learning management system (LMS) on a learner's second quiz attempt even if they don't actually pass or complete the quiz. This issue was fixed in Update 5 for Articulate Storyline. See this article for more information.

We are now on update 9 by the way - I'd recommend getting up to date for sure :) Lots of bug fixes you can see here.
