Read and write Variables
Mar 07, 2011
Hi guys,
I have a problem to read or write variables. My presentation includes a slide that have to show additional informations (a customer id, ...).
I just tried two different ways to solve the problem:
- My first idea was to read the variables directly from the html page, but it was not possible to read javascript variables from a slide.
- My second idea was to set a flash variable from javascript und then read the variable from the slide. But I alwas get JavaScript errors if I want to set flash variables.
A interesting point is that even the articulate based function to set a flash variable while resizing the player (flashcommand.js -> function NotifySwfResize()) ends with a javascript error (Fehler: Das Objekt unterstützt diese Eigenschaft oder Methode nicht.).
Thanks for your help

Hi Martin. Do you use Flash? If so, creating custom SWFs with AS2 would probably be the best way to go, as you can use global variables (which do work in Presenter) and you should have an easier time pulling data from your HTML page.
Hi Phil. Yes, we use Flash and AS2. What du you mean with global variables. As discribed above in my presenter version I'm not able to set flash variables. Can you send me a demo swf file or some source code which describes your solution?
I don't have any code handy, but Articulate MVP James wrote a blog entry on this topic. I hope this helps...
Hi, thanks for the fast response. Unfortunatelly this is no solution for my problem. I don't want to set a flash variable in one slide and then read it in another slide. I want to read a javascript variable from my slide or I want to set a flash variable from javascript, so my slide could read it.
Long story short I only need a way to submit/set some information from javascript to a slide.
