Server requirements

Nov 22, 2013

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me with hosting requirements for presenter courses. I'm moving content from a shared to a VPS soon but not being a techie have no idea what server requirements I should choose for presenter content.

If it helps our customers login from all over the world, quite a lot lately from the far east (the server will be based in the UK). Monthly bandwidth has always been below 50GB but of course we hope to grow and would want to plan for at least 100GB -150GB bandwidth over the coming year or two. These are the specs on offer from a host we are looking at:

1 x 0.20 GHz Xeon core, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB RAID(1) disk

1 x 0.40 GHz Xeon core, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB RAID(1) disk

2 x 0.40 GHz Xeon cores, 2 GB RAM, 90 GB RAID(1) disk

*2 x 0.80 GHz Xeon cores, 4 GB RAM, 140 GB RAID(1) disk

*4 x 0.80 GHz Xeon cores, 8 GB RAM, 200 GB RAID(1) disk

*4 x 1.50 GHz Xeon cores, 15 GB RAM, 300 GB RAID(1) disk

*8 x 1.50 GHz Xeon cores, 30 GB RAM, 500 GB RAID(1) disk

Those marked * come with the choice of HDD or SDD.

Bearing in mind the higher level specs come with an enormous price premium (too expensive for us) could someone recommend a level to go for and whether we should choose HDD or SDD that would allow us the growth I've outlined.

Many thanks for your help!

Hi Peter and welcome to Heroes!

I also wanted to point out the system requirements here for viewing content, as those will be important to keep in mind as you look at continued growth. The only other server requirements for Articulate content is that it can handle the file types generated by the software or any files you have added separately. These can include (but are not limited to) HTML, XML, and SWF files. You may also want to check that the server has the correct mime types installed to support mp4 or flv videos.
