USB .exe file shortcuts not working

Apr 12, 2017

Hello,

We've developed two courses and would like to upload them to USBs with supplementary information (basically have additional folders with .pdf's on a variety of topics) for offline use.

I've created shortcuts to the presentation_launch.exe files in the published folders so the users don't have to sift through all the files for each course output to launch the presentation. This works just fine when I initially set up the shortcuts, but when I insert the USB into a new computer for testing, the pathways for the shortcuts are broken and need to be fixed.

How do I fix this so the pathways don't break every time the USB is inserted to a new computer? They work sometimes, but we can't leave this up to chance.

Thanks,

Follow up -

I removed the shortcuts and have hidden the folders that contain the presentation output content, so the only thing that is visible is the original .exe file.

I can get the course to run with no issues on some of the computers, but for other computers it randomly won't work. The course window will load, but the course doesn't load and there is a black box in the top left corner of the window  (see the attached screen shot).

Please advise.

Thanks,

Hey Jeff,

Thanks so much for reaching out here and letting us know what's happening.

Making any changes or edits to the published output itself can certainly lead to the strange behavior you're seeing here. In order to ensure that your course runs as designed for distribution on USB drive, you’ll want to Publish for CD and make sure to include the entire published output as is on the USB. Your users will need to double click the Launch_Presentation.exe in that output to run the course.

Thanks for the reply Ali. I've published the courses for CD and have copied and pasted the published output folders to the USB. The Launch_Presentation.exe files run the course with no problem on some of the computers in our office, but for others I'm met with the blank window where the course doesn't load at all (see previous screenshot). Are there any other ideas for resolving this issue?

Thanks,
