Videos won't play in Articulate Studio Pre-view

Jul 26, 2016

I have integrated a couple of videos in a PowerPoint presentation for an eLearning using the Articulate Studio's  "add video feature". See picture I. After having uploaded the video it plays in the pre-view mode when requested.

A couple of ours, days, moments later, it is not working in pre-view anymore! The slide is completely empty. When I try to edit the video properties, the video is gone! See error message Picture II.

-> it seems the program is looking for the video in a temporary location, where I did not save it. How do I overcome this issue?

Hi Sofia,

Thanks for reaching out here and sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing. Did you confirm that you're working with local project files as a whole?

Videos and other presentation resources are stored in the *.ppta file that corresponds to your PowerPoint file. Without the *ppta file, Presenter won't work properly.

If this presentation was transferred from another computer, you may need to check its previous location for the original *.ppta file. When you find it, place it in the same folder as your PowerPoint file, and make sure both files have the same name. Here is a bit more information on understanding the PPTA file.

Hi Christine and Ashley,

Thanks for offering your support. I have not saved the file locally, it's on the network... I will try to package the file and move it.. " Questions regarding that:

1) I have created the quizzes and interactions separately (not direct through the presenter mode), and they are not yet imported to the presentation. Do I have to import the quizzes to the articulate presentation in order to move them intact to a local location?

2) When I check the video property's for the videos currently not working, the address goes to a temporary location, why does Articulate look there when I have indicated a another address for my source file? I'm worried this issue will not change moving my file to a local location on my computer. See picture Articulate Error III.

Hi Sofia,

Thanks for sharing that additional information here.

All the files should be on the local drive, and you can move them prior to importing into your Presenter course -and I'd recommend that vs. importing them first in case there is an element of corruption existing in one of the files already based on being saved on a network drive.

The appdata/roaming folder that you're seeing is where files can be saved/stored when connected to a roaming profile, which if you're working off a network drive could be why you're seeing it as such. You should see an appdata/local once you're working locally and that's where temp files and folders are saved in the event of a crash.

Hi Ashley,

Problem solved. I moved everything to a local drive.... Thank you for the advise.

I don't like the solution though, we are a big company with collaborators on eLearning across the globe. We have all our work (not only eLEarnings) in our Network.

Any update with improvements in this regard on it's way?

Hi Community,

The videos are not working again!!! I have saved all the files on my local drive and they worked perfectly on Friday. Today, they are not working agsin.

I save a new version of the file every day according to date. It can not be that I have to re-edit every single video because of versioning. Who in the articulate team can I call? I need urgent asistant because my deadline is coming closer.

When previewing, i notice that the file name is wrong. See picture attached. Articulate drops the first date 29.07.2016...... How can I tell the program to look for the right file?  Why is this error still happening?

Hi Sofia,

We don't have a phone support set up, but you can reach our Support Engineers here via email and they're available 24/7. I am not sure what you're describing based on that image, but working with our Support Engineers would be the next best step so that we can a bit deeper look at your set up and what may be occurring.

Hi Ashley, thanks for cheking in.

The problem is solved! It took a long time for Articulate, myself and IT to figure out the problem which had to do with the path I used to access the source file and import data. I've used the favourite bar access point on my computer - don't ever do that! Instead, use the OSDisk (C:) path to access and edit your presentation. See picture attached.

Thanks for all support!

Hi all, false sense of security. The videos do not work again!!

I have adapted everything in my process and now 2 months later when publishing the modules, the videos do not work, again. This is a disaster! I have 6 modules that don't work.

You have to help me out here, I'm so ready to quit Articulate and ban it from our conpany. I need to have all modules working next week. There are at least 10 videos in each module.

What is your suggested next steps?

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Sofia,

It this happened newly and was working for a period of time in between I'd want to ensure that we work with you directly to take a look at your files and find out more about how you're publishing. I'm going to open up a new case on your behalf so you'll see that email from our team shortly and then they'll be able to work with you one on one.
