Making a placement test using Quizmaker

Dec 19, 2011

I've never made a placement test using Quizmaker.  I have a couple of questions.

1.  I see that you can send results to an email address (Pass Slide).  I want to allow the student to fill in the email address.  When I put a checkmark by the option of sending an email, a prompt asks me for the email address.  How can I create a spot for the students to input the results email address themselves?

2.  I'd like to add audio for some questions, which I can do.  I don't want the audio to play automatically when they view the slide.  I'd like to have a "play" button for the students so they can listen more than once, if they'd like.  How can I do that?

Thank you!

Nina,

As far as the email feature goes, you do have to put in an address, but when the user takes the course, and selects the email option, their email program will open with an email creation page - the address will populated in the "to" field, but they can add other addresses and content to the email before they hit send.

You can use the pass results page to instruct them on what to do.

As far as audio that you can "trigger", here is a screenr I created a while back that uses a similar feature:

Hope that helps,

So, to understand the email, we should put an email address on the Pass/Result slide.  Then the student can erase that email address, and put his teacher's email address.  Is that correct?

I'm a little confused about how to get the "play" control for the audio.  Are you saying to load the audio onto the video as if it were a video?  I tried that, and I got a message that said that format was unsupported (MP3).  What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Hey Nina,

I understand how this can be confusing.  So, the issue is - audio  inserted will not have a play/pause controller.  You can insert audio into a course and adjust on the timeline, so that it does not start immediately, but you cannot give it a play bar.

However, you can insert video with player controls.  So, the solution I proposed in the Screenr is to use Presenter to create blank videos. Then insert those videos into the course.  Since all you need is the audio, you can re-size the video down so that really all the user really sees is the play bar.

If you add audio to a blank slide in Presenter and publish, presenter will generate a Slide1.swf file.  Open the folder for the presentation, open the data/swf folder and you will see the list of video Presenter has generated.  Insert that Slide1.swf into your quizmaker course. That video, since it is blank, will play only the audio from that slide.

It is not perfect, but it can work.  I hope that helps clear things up.

Feel free to direct message me if I have added to the confusion.
