Quiz locks when Finish button takes user to URL

Mar 01, 2011

I'm curious if somebody might help me figure out why this happens.  I run a website where people watch a presentation, take a quiz, and then when they pass, the "Finish" button goes to a URL.  That URL runs a PHP script that credits the user's account with having watched the presentation.

Since January, I've had almost 10,000 credited courses, so it works probably 98% of the time.  But every once in a while I get people contacting me saying they press the Finish button and nothing happens... no credit, no nothing. It seems most of these people have solved their issue by moving to a different computer.

Does anybody know what feature or setting or browser might cause these issues?  It's a tiny segment of my viewing population, but if anybody knows the reason and how the user can fix it, I would love to be able to pass that information on...

Hi John & welcome to Heroes,

Are you opening a URL or just exiting the browser with the Finish button.  If you're just exiting the browser, see the link below:

Hi Doug,

If the end-users aren't going to another URL when they click on the Finish button, then it's likely a security permissions issue.  Have them try the following if they experience the issue again:

1) Upgrade Adobe Flash Player here:

http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash

2) If your LMS requires Java to be installed on the client computers, be sure the correct version of Java is installed and enabled for your browser. Java can be downloaded and installed here:

http://java.com

3) Clear your browser cache. You can do this in Internet Explorer by going to Tools > Internet Options > General > Temporary Internet Files. Select Delete Cookies and Delete Files.

4) Also in Internet Options, on the Security, Privacy, and Advanced tabs, reset everything to its default settings. There is a button on each tab to reset defaults.

5) In Windows Vista / 7, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.  In Windows XP, go to Start > Run.

6) Copy / paste the following line of text (depending on your operating system) into the Run dialog box. Click OK, and delete the entire contents of the window (folder) that opens.

Windows Vista / 7:

"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects"

Windows XP:

"C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects"

7) Close all browser windows for the changes to take effect, and then test your content again.
