Quizmaker '09 - Not working

Jan 08, 2015

Hello, It looks like all of my QuizMaker quizzes that where created in quizmaker '09 have stopped working? I just get the spinner over and over again. We have upgraded to 2013 a few months ago and the old quizzes where still working. Is that not the case now? I am talking abut the published files. Did something happen and those files are no longer supported?

Hi Lindsay!

Quizmaker '09 not working and your published files not working would be two different issues. We do not support your published files?

Can you clarify what is going on in your case? Are you trying to access a course within Quizmaker '09 software? What do you mean that you upgraded to 2013? Your Quizmaker from '09 to '13 or you upgraded to Office 2013 and still have Quizmaker '09?

Sorry for not understanding, but hopefully we can get you sorted :)

Let me try to explain it again to make sure we are on the same page. I have used Articulate for years. All of the quizzes that where created in quizmaker '09 have randomly stopped working. We have around 100 of them and every single one, is no longer working. When I click on the Quiz.html file, all i am getting is the spinner. With every single one of them. It doesn't matter if it is posted on a website, or off my desk top. However, when i open the quizzes that are created using Quizmaker '13, they work fine. My question is, did you stop supporting the Quizmaker '09 published files?

Hi Lindsay!

We still support Studio '09 software.

Once it is published, it depends on that environment.

Do you have a link that you can share and give me some details about how the content is published?

Published content should be uploaded to a Web server or LMS for proper playback.  If you will be viewing content on your local hard drive, you should publish for CD.

You are also welcome to share a .quiz file if you wish for me to test this out.

I do not have any other customers reporting this issue at this time. If you are viewing in a web browser, Flash Updates can occur without your knowledge.

What browser are you utilizing to view your content? Does it fail in IE/Chrome/Firefox/Safari?

Does this happen for all users?

Does the URL to the quiz.html file contains spaces or special characters?

For example: http://www.mywebsite.com/my course/quiz.html

Hello Lindsay and Leslie,

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem as Lindsay. I have published a standalone quiz using Quizmaker 09. If I publish it for the web, the SWF file doesn't load and is spinning continiously.

This behaviour occurs wether I publish and and execute it locally   or I upload the published content on a web server and try to play the quiz remotely.

I did several texts to try to pinpoint the problem:

  • The quiz executes if previewed in quizmaker
  • The quiz executes if published for CD
  • The quiz executes if I publish for the web locally on my drive but rather then executing the quiz.html file, I drag the SWF file in my Chrome (my web browser).

This tells me that the SWF content is working just fineand that the problem resides in the HTML launcher file.

Hi Michel,

I wasn't able to see a way to progress past that splash screen? It may be easier if you're able to share a copy of the .quiz file with us and then we can take a look at publishing it as well. Have you tried placing in a different web server? There are a few options you could look at using in this article.

And the link you shared, looked like you were linking to the HTML file, which is what you'll want to link too - not the SWF file.

Hi Michel,

I see that Victor was able to test your file and successfully publish and upload and shared a sample file with you. He also shared the following steps if you continue to have difficulty:

If you continue to encounter this issue even on our published course, please follow these steps:

Step #1. Upgrade your version of the Flash Player to the latest version: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

Step #2. Clear your cache. You can do this in Internet Explorer by going to Tools -> Internet Options -> General -> Temporary Internet Files and select Delete Cookies and Delete Files.

Step #3. Under the Security tab, click on the Internet, Local intranet, Trusted Sites, and Restricted Sites and select Default level for each.

Step #4. Under the Privacy tab make sure that is set to the Default level.

Step #5. Under Advanced click Restore advanced settings and click OK.

To reduce some potential caching issues, it's best to have Internet Explorer set to request the latest version of the page rather than relying on a cached copy. To do this:

1. From the Tools menu choose Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, under Browsing history, click Settings.
3. Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages" make sure "Every time I visit the webpage" is selected.
4. Click the OK button.
