Mouse/Cursor out of Sync

Jun 13, 2017

When recording my screen in replay all seems OK, however, when I play back the screen record, the mouse is out of sync with where it should be. As I'm creating training videos, it is important that the video is a clear representation of the process, having it a few inches out is not very clear for those who will eventually watch them.

I'm new to Articulate so wondering if anyone has had this problem before and how they overcame it please?

Hi Paula, welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!

I would love to take a look at your .replay file and see what's happening! What are you trying to record on your system? Could there be a delayed associated with items loading on the screen?

Also, I wanted to check if you've taken a look at the information here for the system requirements.

Let me know if you can share a copy and we'll go from there!

Hi Brian,

I didn't see a copy of Paula's file, but I'd be happy to take a look at yours. You can share it here, or upload to our Support Engineers here.

Are you looking for Replay to adjust to the size prior to screen recording, or once the video has actually been recorded? I wanted to make sure I was clear on your request before sharing with our team, but you're also welcome to send it directly as a Feature request here

The trouble I'm having is getting the cursor to match what I'm actually doing. I found a fix...setting my monitors resolution to a size that does not match the recommended settings. I've tried on two different laptops with an identical issue and found many forums with people agreeing.

Thanks Brian, for following up with what worked for you.  If you'd like to let us know what the settings were that worked for you, that'd be helpful for us to examine.

Also, looks like your contact information came through with your email signature.  If you reply via email, your signature is included.  You can edit it out of your post here, if you'd like!

Hi. I'm having the same issue with my mouse when recording the screen. I'm using a DELL Latitude 5285 tablet with Windows 10. I checked the system requirements and all seems to be fine there. When I'm recording, the mouse is not appearing in the same place. I'm thinking I will just use the touch screen for the recording I need to do today but I would love to know why this is happening as I hope to use Replay more and more for training videos. Thanks, Michelle

Hey Michelle!

Sorry you're hitting this too-- I'm happy to help.

I have a couple suggestions to try here:

  •  Double check and make sure your DPI is set at 100% in Windows 10. Here's how:
    1. Right-click your desktop and select Display settings.
    2. Click the Display tab in the upper left corner of the window that appears.
    3. Drag the text size slider all the way to the left—i.e., 100%.
    4. Click Apply.
    5. Restart your machine.
  • If that's not the culprit, try running this repair on Replay.

Let me know how those go!

Hi Zoe,

Sorry you're hitting this snag, and thanks for letting us know you've already tried adjusting the screen resolution.

Our team also uses Macs with Parallels desktop, so we're familiar with the set-up. Have you already double checked that you're following these recommendations?

If so, are you using Replay 1 or Replay 360?

Good day!

I am also running into issues with my mouse/cursor not lining up when I take a screen recording in Replay360. I'm using dual monitors as my setup and I'm trying to capture from a local VM or from a RDP session and I get the same result for both. I've made all the resolutions match. I've tried different scaling options but I"m not seeing any results. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Replay and I'm still getting the same results. Is there any other suggestions that you all here can think of? I'm very very new to screen recording.

Hi Brooke,

I'm happy to work closely with you to sort the syncing issue. Could you help me with these details?

  • Since you're using Articulate 360, can I have you record a sample screencast in Storyline 360 and see if the issue happens there? Here are the steps
  • Could you let me know the dimensions you use when recording your screen with Replay 360?

These clues will help us determine our next move. I'm excited to hear back!

Hello, I have this problem too. The cursor position does not match what I recorded. The discussion is already old, so I wanted to ask if there is now a workaround? If I choose the recommended setting (100%), the Curser Sync works but the recorded area is now black with a fairly large area. Unfortunately I can't use Replay like this :-(

Hi, Michael, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ✨

I'm sorry you're experiencing an incorrect cursor position when using Replay. Good call on changing the display setting to 100%!

Let's try this as the first step to troubleshooting: instead of recording the full-screen, can you try to select the region where your content appears?

Let me know if that works!

I have similar issue with replay's playback of a screen recording.  Curser is to the left of where it was when I recorded it.  I am using 1920x 1080 which is Dell's recommended setting, and 125% text size.  When I reset resolution to 1600 x 900 and change text size to 100%, as recommended by Articulate (which apparently requires a reboot), then the curser doesn't show at  all, I think because the resolution is bad.
