Print Quiz questions along with student results?
Oct 12, 2012
Good Morning- I'm new to Storyline. In our organization, we provide customer education and have chosen a blended learning approach. Thus, all participants must complete online pre-work prior to coming to the instructor led portion of the class. In the past, we have had participants bring their completed "workbooks- composed of all quiz questions and their answers" to class and the instructor has worked an activity into the class where they go over the questions. THis has been very popular among instructors and with participants. Yesterday I was asked-
Is there a way for participants to print the quiz questions along with their answers and bring this to class?
Since I have no idea, I thought I'd put the question out to the experts- YOU! Any help and/or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards-
Dianna

Hi Dianna! In your result slide in Storyline, you can incorporate a Print Results button. When learners click it, it opens up an HTML page showing the summary of the learner's quiz performance, including each question's text, correct answer, what the learner chose as the answer, and whether they got it right or not. The report looks something like the screen shot below. Learners can then use their browser's Print feature to print out the report and bring it with them to the instructor-led class. Would this suit your needs?
Thanks Jeannette- This absolutely meets my needs.

Is there anyway to edit the html for this print results page? I know there is no way to email quiz results but if I was able to edit the print results page I could possibly create something. Thanks
Hey Chad, that's a good question! Currently there's no feature within Storyline that would enable this, but it would make an excellent feature request.
In the meantime: although it wouldn't be a supported approach, you could perhaps edit the report.html file (which you can find in the story_content folder of your published output). Dave Moxon shared some how to do that with Quizmaker (not Storyline) awhile back, and you can read about his method here. Since Storyline's quiz report is similar to Quizmaker's, it's possible that you might be able to use the same or similar steps. To be honest, I've not tried this in Storyline, so I don't know if it will give you the output you want, and again, it wouldn't be something that's officially supported.
Good morning all - this thread came close to answering my question, but not quite, so I thought I would do a little add-on...
I have a survey question where I would like the user to organize a list of objects into top to bottom priority - there is no right or wrong answers, just personal ordering - and then have them print out their results for use in a different exercise.
Any thoughts - other than having them do a screen print before they click the submit button?
Thank you!
(I will also be posting a question about formatting such an exercise - it is not working as I would like currently)
Hi Brent,
How'd you create your question? Is it one of the standard question types, such as a Ranking Drag and Drop or Ranking Dropdown? If so, you could insert your question slide, then insert a result slide that pertains to just that question, and include a Print Results button on the result slide. The downside is, the format of the print results is pretty vanilla - there's not a feature that allows you to tailor it. You end up with a report that looks like the one below, where "Student Answer" shows the items in the order the learner chose. The other downside to using the standard question types is that they only allow learners to rearrange textual items, not images or shapes or other objects. So this might not meet your needs.
A different approach would be to create a drag and drop slide via the Convert To Freeform option. The downside with that is, the Print Results feature won't be able to show the graphical output - so in that case, the Print Results feature wouldn't be useful. So yeah you'd need to tell the learner to right-click the slide and choose their browser's print option to print a copy of their answer. Maybe that would be the best approach for you?
Hi Jeanette - thanks for the response! I did use the templated ranking drag and drop - from a survey question, not a gradable question (since there is no right or wrong answers). I had really hoped that there would be a way to show them a "you sorted your list in the following order" image showing their selections, in that each of the items is a sentence, not just a one word answer - as your example.
I was thinking of something I saw somewhere (out here, I think??) that had the user select answers and then showed them what the correct way was along with what they had done. It wasn't a graded question bring up a slide with what their order was - and then have a way of printing that page.
I might have to do some searching on variables or something - I have a feeling that was where I saw what I am thinking about...
Hmm, I'm not sure which example you might've seen. I wonder if it would work to do something like the attached? In that example, I turned on the feedback for the ranking drag/drop question, and on the feedback layer I included a message which tells the learner to right-click and print. When they're done, they click Continue to move on to whatever additional content comes after that question. Would that work for you?
If not, maybe you could attach a screengrab of your question and/or a mockup of what you have in mind, and we can continue to brainstorm?
can anyone help me to remove correct/incorrect response from the print results page?
i've ticked off the option 'allow users to review quiz'
just to be clear i just want a summary of users result.
also will be it possible to customise which colums you want displaying when you print the results
Hi Asif,
At this time Storyline doesn't offer the ability to customize the printed results or remove items from the output. That would make a great feature request though!
In the meantime, if you just want users to be able to print their score info, one workaround is to include this data on the quiz result screen, and instruct learners to use their browser's print option (ctrl+p) to print the screen.
what i had to do was edit the java script in report html. it works fine.
to be honest i would have thought Articulate would have had this feature already to avoid learners from cheating.
thanks
Does anyone know if developers can print the Quiz banks showing the questions and feedback in Storyline, like you could in Articulate Quiz Maker? Not for students but for the developer.
Hi Kathleen,
Yes, if you insert a draw from a question bank, and then publish your project to Word, the contents of the question bank will be included in the Word file.
Ok, Thank you. I will try that.
I have another question. When you insert an engage slide into Storyline, a line with the words "next Storyline slide" comes up after all interactions are complete. Is there a way to edit that and take out the word "Storyline" because our users don't know what Storyline is.
Hi again Kathleen - sure thing. If you want to change the wording on that button, in Storyline just go to the slide that contains your imported Engage interaction, click anywhere on the slide to select it, and then go to the "Options" tab on the toolbar. There will be a field called "Button Label" and you can change the text there to say whatever you want:
That is wonderful! Thank you so much!
Jeanette, Christine has pointed me to this page. Is there a way I can get the text in all the Question boxes on the print out of the results page. I did a lot of cut and paste is this the reason it came out as shown below? Thanks for any help. Robert
Hi Robert! I think the problem might be that the question text for question 4 and after is actually just a regular textbox on your slide (and not entered in the question editor)... which means Storyline doesn't know to pick it up for the "Question" column on your report. Check out this screencast and see if it helps: https://player.vimeo.com/video/149187406
Hi Jeanette...I am needing to put in a Print option to a course. I have put in a Results slide with the Print button and then set it up for the user to print with their name attached. I am publishing to HTML unfortunately the Print option does not appear to be working. Can you help me troubleshoot?
Hi everyone...below is the error message I get for my print report. Can anyone help me....I have a deadline of today so I am getting a bit desparate!!!

Your running it locally try uploading to your LMS or web and see if it works from their, otherwise publish to CD and then test it
I have published it to the web. It opens in a webpage and functions fine except for the print option. Any other ideas for what may be happening?
Hi Jane,
After publishing, you'll still need to get it hosted. See if it works for you on a site like Tempshare...
Hi Everyone,
Is it possible to print out a quiz to mark manually?
