Adding a web object making the .story file very heavy

Nov 03, 2017

I am trying to import a pdf using a web object on to my story file. I have basically created a html file which imports the pdf and stored in my local machine. I am calling this file using the story file. The issue is that even though the original pdf is 164kb and the resulting html is 231kb, when I do the import my story file becomes 625mb from original 32mb. What could be causing this?

Hi Nivedita,

If you're linking to a local object, that is going to be pulled into the course and adding to the file size. I wouldn't expect it to have added that much - so there may be other items in your course interfering with this.

If you have access to the PDF, have you looked at just linking the file to the slide vs. having it display within the slide? That may help you out right now, and if you'd like us to take a look at the behavior we can - we'll need a copy of your .story file and the PDF. You can share both of those here, or send along to our Support team.

Thanks Ashley! Unfortunately, I cannot share my files due to confidentiality issues. It was a local copy and I didn't want to add it to references. As there were only 4 pages, I took screenshots and used the scrolling panel to display them. Although, I am still wondering what is the problem is as I also tried to do it in a new story file but still got the same result.
