adding another element to an established group - storyline 2

Sep 06, 2016

I realise this has probably been covered many many times but it's proving to be difficult to nail down an answer in this case.

I have an established group: a background shot with a semi transparent polygon to give it gravitas. Done. Happy. Brilliant.

However, now I have another rectangle that I'd like to add to this group - let's call it "BG". I've tried ctrl+click and drag onto the group - no luck. Select the group and the new element and use CTRL+G - nada.

Am I missing something here? please?

I have the same issue. Recreate the group is not an option for me, because the group has a lot of configurations (animations, transitions, motion path, ...) if I do that I'm going to lose all my work.

Are there any other work arround to add an item into an existing (and configured) group?

Thanks!

Maybe just to further explain the need to such a function, groups often have triggers and animations. If you forget to group an element or have to add an element to an existing, you need to ungroup, thus breaking any programming with it.

I've been toying with motion paths, and while groups can be animated with paths, these need to be redrawn if I need to add an element. Same goes with triggers.

It would be even better if it was a simple drag and drop implemented the same way they do it in Photoshop and Illustrator where you just drag an object into a group in the layers panel - so in the timeline in Storyline. Or the same way you can drag menu items to nest them in the player menu properties.

Hi all!

I am jumping into this discussion to share that we just released Storyline 360 (Build 3.63.27628.0) which includes changes to the timeline.

New: Create slides faster with time-saving upgrades to the timeline. Multi-select objects and move them all at once. Choose where pasted objects appear in the stacking order or even paste them into an existing group. Align objects to the playhead or vice versa. And when the timeline is too long, you can instantly reset it to five seconds or shorten it to the object with the longest duration.

Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!

If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out in this discussion or in a support case.

Hi Everyone,

Possible solution!

I want to add a shape, icon, image etc to an existing group without losing animations that are applied to that group.

This worked for me.

Ctrl+C (copy) the shape or icon I want to add to the group, then select an object in the group (any object) this opens the group and then I Ctrl+V (paste) the shape or icon and it appears in the group, keeping all the existing animations.

Hope it works for you!
