Adding multiple thumbs on one slider
Dec 04, 2016
Hello there,
I would like to know if multiple thumbs can be added to one slider. For example, I am creating a fraction lesson and I would like to use the slider as a number line. I want students to be able to stop a thumb on one point and use the second thumb to stop at another point. The fraction problem is..Farmer John travels to the market on his tractor. His tractor breaks down half way to the market and he got a flat tire three quarters of the way to the market. One the number line, move the first thumb to the fraction that represents half way. Move the second thumb to the fraction that represents three quarters of the way to the market. Besides Farmer John having bad luck on his way to the market, I can't seem to find a way to add a second thumb, if it is possible. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Makeba
you can't add two thumbs to one slider but why don't you use two sliders and change the thumb fill to an image of a tractor and make it into a paragragh so the sliders form part of the statements.
Technically, you can manually (not using the built-in sliders in SL2) create a slider with two thumbs, see here the range slider example. However an interaction like this is very complex and I don' think it's worth the effort in your case. I'd go with Wendy's suggestion.
I agree. Thank you!

You'll have to let us know how you make out Makeba! We'd love to see an example of your work!
Hi Makeba, if you know about Javascript, you could also consider displaying a JQuery slider in a Storyline webobject and pass the slider value(s) into Storyline variables. Here is an example of JQuery sliders.
Will do! I have decided create the number line with shapes and added a drag and drop feature with two tractors. When one tractor is placed then the other appears. This project is a massive under taking as I providing an interactive gamified experience for 3rd graders learning fractions. I appreciate this forum and the feedback because I have learned (a lot) just from the examples, videos and articles. I was between Captivate 9 and Storyline 2. I made my decision based on the plethora of information to pretty much do whatever I wanted with the program. Thanks again and when I'm done and restored my life back to normalcy, I will definitely put some snipets of the project up on this site to pay it forward!
Thank you, I did not think of javascript. How would I add javascript to a storyline project or can you direct me to a video or example?
Hi Makeba!
I'm not JavaScript savvy, but perhaps this document will help get you started.
