Are Xapi/CMI5 maintenance heavy in comparison to SCORM if I want to report on SCORM Data?

I'm trying to get my head around something, I have only recently started looking to the possibilities that XAPI/CMI5 have to offer and wanted to confirm some things with anyone else that has experience using them.

I am using Storyline and exporting to an LMS.

I would like to confirm with others the below assumption and confirm I have understood XAPI correctly and hear about any workarounds/tips you might have.

Assumption: You can use xapi statements to report on data equivalent to SCORM as shown here. The amount of effort to do this is quite large, meaning that if you want to use xapi data in your course to report on all that SCORM would, it would significantly increase the amount of maintenance time as you would need to write the xapi statements for each instance where you would like to report "SCORM" data.

Question: If the above is true, is there a way to publish SCORM content to an LMS and also use xapi get the best of both worlds and reduce the amount of maintenance time?
