Articulate Module that works on a PC but not on a mobile device.

Apr 22, 2013

Hi Heroes!

I am pretty new to using Articulate - I am loving what I see so far!

I have hit a stumbling block and was hoping that someone out there may be able to help...

I have just created my first module and have loaded it up to our hosted LMS. When I test it on a PC it works as expected, however, I went to test it on an iPad and iPhone and had differing results.

What should happen: I have created a trigger on images that when the user clicks on the image they are taken to another screen. When they click 'next' they return to the intial screen.

With the iPad, when I click on the image nothing happens at all.

With the iPhone, the screen only shows the top left hand corner of the slide, nothing else. It isn't possible to move the screen around either.

I published to HTML5, I am not sure if it is a setting I have missed when I have published or what I have done.

Any help or advice is appreciated!

Thanks, Kaz

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Kaz!

I'm afraid we won't be able to help much with the course on the iPhone, as that is not currently a supported device.

How exactly do you have the triggers setup on that image? You may want to make sure that the content you have is supported in HTML5 output. You may want to take a look at the following chart that outlines the supported features in Flash, HTML5 and the Mobile Player:

Articulate Support > Comparing Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output

Also, have you tried publishing for the Mobile Player for testing? If not, please try this and see if the same issues happen when viewing the course on the iPad.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks and welcome again,

Christine

Hi Christine, thanks for your help with this!

So,on the iPad, the first slide appears with no issues. I press on the 'next' button and it takes me to slide 2

I have three images on my second slide. Each image has two triggers:

The first  trigger is to change the state of the image from normal to visited (the visited image is just a black and white version of the 'normal' colour one)

The second is to jump to a nominated slide when the user clicks on the image.

I have a condition on the 'next' button for this slide that all three images must be eual to visited before the user can jump to the last slide using the next button.

I did review the link you sent through, i am not sure if my triggers fall under the heading of 'Engage Interactions', that is the only thing I can see that would be an issue.

With your suggestion of Mobile Player Testing, can you point me in the right direction for how to do this?!

Thanks again for your help, it is really appreciated!!

HI there Kaz! :)

Thanks very much for getting back to me.

Engage Interactions shouldn't be a concern, unless you're actually inserting those interactions from that product (Engage is a part of our Studio package)

The first thing I would try, before testing in the Mobile Player, is to check your Private Browsing settings in Safari. You may find that Articulate Storyline's HTML5 output doesn't load as expected in Safari when the Private Browsing feature is enabled. Please review the following article for more information:

HTML5 output doesn't load correctly in Safari with Private Browsing enabled

Next, please make sure you're publishing your course with the most recent version of Storyline. To find this information, click on "Help" and "About Articulate Storyline". If you're not currently using version 2 (1212.1412), please download and install Update 2 from the link below. After updating, republish your course, upload it and test it on your iPad.

Articulate Storyline > Download Update 2

If you still have trouble, please publish for the Articulate Mobile Player. To do this, select your normal method for publishing (Web, LMS, etc.) and ensure that the option "Use Articulate Mobile Player on iPad" is selected. Finish publishing your course and upload it to your server. When you view the course on your iPad, it should open in the Articulate Mobile Player. If you don't have the Mobile Player already installed on your iPad, it should prompt you to download the app.

Let me know how it goes :)

Thanks very much, Kaz!

Hi Shawnda,

As Christine mentioned, if you're using the Engage interactions by  " inserting those interactions from that product (Engage is a part of our Studio package)." will not work as detailed here in this comparison chart as Engage 09 does not have support for HTML5 or the mobile player.

If you'd like to have the Engage interaction as a part of your Storyline course I would suggest publish Engage as a standalone, and place on a web server. Once you do that you'll be able to insert it as web object within Storyline.
